Do NOT put gear oil in a manual trans.

Eaton manual and automated calls for synthetic 50wt trans lube.

    #### 50sae trans fluid is very hard to find (at least in a quart) no automotive supply shups have it and big truck dealers only sell in 5 gal buckets. Which are all sold out.... so 40 wt motor oil will also not work? Also "manual transmission fluid" sold at orileys will not work as well? I DO NOT want to mess anything up :)

Most higher volume shops will have it in bulk or 55 drums. A 9 speed and up will hold close to 4 gallons anyhow. Get 5 and change it or have a shop top it for you.......but with the right stuff.

Bring in a jug and maybe they give you a quart from the bulk tank?

Get a 5 gallon bucket and a pump, if the trannys in the truck you're gonna need a pump anyway. 40 wt motor oil isn't a good idea, and oreallys "manual transmission fluid" is probably not either.

    Oxbow and Goodysnap Thank this.

Lucas sells it by the gallon, if you’re only a quart low,I wouldn’t worry about it, too it off at next oil change. Or go now to TS shop, have them top it off. Maybe they’ll sell you some, I think they charge by the pint. Expensive too

    TowHaul Thanks this.

SAE 50 is the standard for trucks. Keep in mind tho that API 75w90 will also satisfy the requirement. They are basically the same viscosity but the 75w90 will be better in the cold mornings. If you go the 75w90 route make sure it is transmission oil and not gear oil as the two have different additives.

80's 1/2 tons with a four speed. It was in the manual. I thought they were doing everything possible for a good fuel mileage number. Thank my 01 3500 had ATF in the manual box. It is 50W synthetic now. I bought it new.
