Hi folks,
What is your opinion about Volvo used trucks (2005-2010), are they reliable?
Which truck is more reliable in your opinion? I know is a vague question but any suggestions will be appreciated.

Keep in mind I have only driven them as a company driver but I really like Volvos quite a bit. They ride nice with good turning radiuses. At my old company the 2005 and 2006 years didn't pull like you would have expected. 2007 and 2008 could pull very well. Had that model year (2007) when I was driving PA around Milesburg on 80 (Those are some hills). After the 2008 model year I can't tell you anything about them because I didn't have the opportunity to drive one. Most of our drivers didn't seem to have any issues with 2009-2010 and our shop wasn't loaded with them to be serviced. All you heard was just preventative maintenance.
2005 and 2006 were not the best pulling tractors for hilly work.
Overall the mechanics of the truck years I listed was excellent. We didn't have any of the electrical issues that some Volvos do develop over the course of time. These trucks were your typical Volvo VNL sleeper with a 10 sod. Hope this helps. -
I drove a rental Ryder Volvo, from Las Vegas to Miami and back. It was a 2012, Cummins ISX15, 10 speed. My take on it...nice truck, could use some improvements as far as creature comforts are concerned. The company I drive for considered buying one new, but ended up opting for the Kenworth T680 as the price difference between the two was minimal and your money goes WAY farther as far as features and driver comforts in the Paccar trucks.

I would love to know what money goes where into which paccar product that beats a Volvo. The towing? I'm sure towing is considered a creature comfort, when that MX series leaves you wherever when it decides it's had enough for the day.
The Volvo is all around most robust a product, carries a higher resale value unless were talking w900's or 680's, in which case a 780 can easily outclass either, is shown to increase driver retention and add a serious modicum of comfort to an otr guys life.
paccar can't build a truck to save itself anymore, or at least one that functions half way decently and correctly for a little over half the time.
guys trashing the d series engine, lol, k! But that MX 13 should've been left in the god ###### factory.
guys trashing the Volvo wiring harness, but it never left me on the side of the road like a peterbilt. -
mp4694330 and mrbamcclain Thank this.

You only spend half the time going up on a hill. Pulling the occasional hill is the last thing you need to worry about if your not going to areas with big hills on a regular basis. One trip across WY to Seattle a year isn't a reason to gear a truck to pull hills. If buying one I would only get the 770.Big, roomy, and plenty of storage. The only fault I have found with them is they are subject more to cross winds or side winds hitting them.

Pac Car sucks, I hate it that they make Kenworth and Peterbilt. A volvo is a nice company truck aswell as a O/o but the comforts of the truck come from europe its a european based company

Volvo is a very comfortable truck. I drove one for awhile. I came out of a Peterbilt. It did take time to get used to the large area of visibility and I felt like I was back in a cabover for a time. I found the truck to be roomy and comfortable. Volvo's are not that easy to work on the engine, but it is a comfortable truck. From a driver's standpoint, it is a good truck to drive if you need to get into tight spots. The short turning radius is great. You can't beat the ride. In the past they had a problem with wiring and at one point had an issue with unusual tire wear. I think that was due to faulty u-bolts on the suspension. I feel confident that they have solved both issues by now.

too bad Volvo doesn't offer FH XXL here.

I have Volvo VNL 670 2007 . Driver loves it ! Sure, why not if I put in it thousands of buks.
You MUST be lucky to buy a good used truck. I think, I wasn't. I bought it for 33K and just for 2014 I spent 25K for repairs.
Some electrical issues, new air compressor , new air dryer, tires and every second week fixing air leakage.
Today paid $760 for replacement of turbo westgate actuator . I don't know what else to say.... driver happy, mechanic happy just I am not lucky( that's on one side), but on the other , what I should expect from buying a truck with 680,000 miles on it. Sure some repairs !
