Just wonder how one gets through CDL school, CDL license, and Company training without knowing this factoid?
Also, so curious why a truck driver is not packing a tape measure?
Don't see how in a job where judging distances, is important, how one could not see that a trailer is approximately 8 1/2' wide?
Also, have a hard time imagining one not learning the trucking hight and width standards before taking on the task of hauling freight?
Also curious to why some one did not learn, or conclude, that there were some exceptions to those standards for things like mirrors? -

Many roads are notorious for ticketing 102" wide and/or 53 foot long trailers running on them. If you pull 53 and or 102 wide trailers, be sure you enter this correctly in the GPS. But also research understand "STAA" roads, and various states such as California and various northeastern states that are prone to have significant restrictions on 53-102's (common trailer size today)
So, figure it out and understand the limitations. Don't worry about mirror width. Just worry about your typical trailer dimensions [which are common] and perhaps your overall rig length. Get a tape measure if you need to and do the work.
