Ramp Transport Driver. You drive between the airport ramps and the FedEx Express terminals. Deadlines are tight, often the job is filled by Express delivery drivers looking to move into something easier. Beyond that little bit of info, Google is your friend.

FedEx Express RTD is usually pretty hard to get in as a full-time driver. Usually that position is promoted from within. Similar to the way UPS does it for their feeder position, where you start off in the warehouse, forklift, etc, working your way up before landing a full-time gig. Could take years, maybe decades, if you work your way up in-house. FedEx Express even trains you to get your CDL too....if you don't have one. Things might of changed now, as they usually never hired off the street, unless nobody in-house wanted the position.

If you get hired off the street for a RTD position...it's very rare to start off full-time. I've met a couple FXE RTD drivers at Amazon, and it seems like a cake job. Just drop and hook, but they also seem to do bulk pick-ups too from businesses. No doubles involved either, just pulling a long box. Starting pay around my area is around $18-22 an hour. Don't know what they top out, but you'll definitely make more at FedEx Freight than you would at Express. They start off around $27 an hour around my area and top out around $31 for P&D. Linehaul is close to .70 cpm. Both Express and Freight are ACTUAL FedEx employee's....where as Ground and Custom Critical are not.

Do you think RTD is alot of city driving or terminal to terminal? I saw an ad on indeed for it thats why I thought of applying.

FedEx Express RTD driver back in the day was known as the "Feeder Drivers" for FedEx. FedEx's version of UPS's Feeder Driver....but the real difference between the two is how long it takes to reach top rate. UPS takes 4 years. FedEx Express takes 10 years. Similar to how long it takes reach top rate at USPS. Not 100% sure what top rate is...and it probably varies from terminal to terminal...but from what I heard, it's around $32 an hour now. If you work at a fairly large hub, you'll start off part-time and it can take YEARS to turn full-time. Again...similar to USPS. There's not that much OT from what I heard, and It can take up to 20-30 years before you make any real money. But this probably depends on location too and how busy you are. How hard or easy the work is depends on what type of runs you have. There's a lot of shuttling loads from the airport to stations to DC's. Usually you unload with a pallet jack if you have to load and unload your trailers at stations, and usually you'll have workers helping you out too.

That's about all I know about FedEx Express. Good luck.

    Ramp transport driver
Basically RTD origin out of airports (ramps) Container full of packages are unloaded off airplanes and loaded onto trucks which are delivered to stations. off loaded and sorted, couriers then deliver packages to customers.

On the p.m side its vice versa. U will pick up bulk trailer at customers locations and return to the ramp.

As a ramp transport driver u will pick up and deliver heavyweights ( palletized freight)

Keep in mind fedex Express is a airlines with trucks, their airplanes does most of the linehaul so u will be local home everynight.

Pay starts at 19 dollars a hr and take u 10 year to top out lol

Right now their are hiring off the street here in Atlanta, ga fulltime. Nobody wants the job anymore, it use to be hard to get but after a couple of years fedex made alot of changes and guys was not happy about it and start quitting. Fedex is just a cdl mill.
