What is Detroit assurance? It looks like a front facing drive cam. How does it work? What are your experiences with this device in your truck.

I am told it is to detect your in your lane.

Test Drive: Daimler's Detroit Assurance Safety System

Contains two items that is not for me.

I'll be ###### if the sob slams on brakes on a shadow while on ice or takes away horsies or screws up royally when enduring brake checks.

    Stupid engineers...//half SNARK....

Detroit assurance my boot. Such a nice catchy handle to soothe ruffled corporate feathers calming their fears of drivers gone crazy.

Does it feed data back to the company?

It certainly has a camera, it could be a driver cam also but drivers are not told that.

Detroit Assurance is a driver safety suite, similar to the "driver assistance" packages that are available with new cars. Adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, etc. That kinda crap.

The current version, 5.0, does offer video capture capability as an option and there is also a driver-facing camera available both of which interface with Bendix SafetyDirect.

    Standard features:
    • Active Brake Assist (ABA) 5.0
-Full braking on moving pedestrian (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)
-Full braking on moving, stopped and stationary objects
    • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) down to 0 MPH (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)
    • Lane Departure Warning*
    • Traffic Sign Display (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)*
    • Intelligent High-Beam (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)*
    • Automatic wipers and headlamps (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)**
    Optional features:
    • Active Lane Assist (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)*
      -Lane Departure Protection
      -Lane Keep Assist
    • Side Guard Assist (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0)***
    • Video Capture (Requires Bendix SafetyDirect)
    • Driver-Facing Camera (New with Detroit Assurance 5.0) (Requires Bendix SafetyDirect)

And all that junk would be unneccessary if the industry didn't lower the bar to the point where simply holding the wheel was asking too much of somebody.

Look at all the commercials for auto's. Drivers not watching the road and the car brakes, looking in the back seat, everything you can think of. And then they say how happy they are that the car has this. I yell at the TV every time i see one of them. LOL

I thought it was something like, if you take a wrong turn in Detroit, you're assured to get killed.
