Fact: Owner Operators hate freight brokers.

Truth: They are necessary for the industry.

Question: As an OO, if you could decide how much a freight broker gets to make off of a load, percentage-wise, what would it be?

I much rather haul a load for $900 if I know the broker charged the customer $1000 instead of another broker for $950 where customer paid $1100.

When I dealt poker, a lot of dealers liked to discuss what percent is fair to get tipped. They would get pissed at the people tipping $1 after winning a huge pot. But if I dealt 20 hands in a half an hour and only got $1 per hand, I'm still getting $40 an hour in tips. I'm doing the exact same job regardless of the pot size, so it doesn't matter how much money is in the middle. So my opinion is that brokers should get a flat rate that reflects the effort that they put into the load. If two brokers put in the exact same effort, but one was short haul and the other a long haul, there shouldn't be a huge difference in what they get. With the increase in automatic load tracking, there doesn't seem like much difference between broker interaction on a short haul vs long haul load.

Brokers need more cash flow than 5% because they need money in the bank to cover all the truckers who want quick pay while they wait 30/60/90 however many days to be paid from their customer.

10% is too little. 20% is too much.

I’d say 12.5 to no more then 15%

But this whole convo is pointless anyway as what happens when the broker loses money or gets 0% Also it depends on how much money the load pays. 15% of a cross country load is probably too much while 15% of a local load probably isn’t worth messing with.

When a broker has load for $2000 and posts it for $1000 and is grabbed up by el cheapo trucking LLC who's the bad guy?

    Greedy broker
    Or cheap freight hauling driver.

I get the rate I’m happy with to haul a load.
    That’s all I care about.

No one was sniveling about what brokers got a year or two ago..

It would be no different than someone trying to cap our profits for delivering a load..
