I am wondering what in the number one cause of a DT466 going bad? In your opinion? I wonder if we are not doing proper maintenance.
We may have to rebuild one or just scrap it, but it only has 190K miles on it.
Any and all discussion appreciated.
Thanks,

Over heating, injector cups, cooling fan clutch. These are a few that come to mind. Best engine International ever made.

Some of the critical failures that lead to rebuilds or scraping are scored liners, broken tappet retainers that ruin the cam. Proper oil change intervals are so important. Proper coolant chemistry is also important. After that, proper operation will determine life span. Let it warm up before use, let it cool down after a hard pull. Don't abuse it and it won't abuse your wallet.
