why would you use a motor of less quality when you can have a Mack which you might not like being able to avg. in the low to mid 7's for mpg yes they use there own motor, own transmission, suspsions, rears and front axles cabs and frames, because they are a truck manufacture not a truck factory that uses a bunch of vendor parts and call it there own
its they stopped using ISX's when they discontined the CL series its been quite a while back when you could get a cat or detroit in the states
What happened to Mack?

yeah those #### unreliable Mack trucks and their Mack engines, I mean gosh why not get a freightshaker with a reliable Mercedes engine..................Oh wait, did I say reliable, um, well, yeah, um, maybe not. 3 Freightshakers with MBE4000 engines, all 3 have had multiple fuel leaks, all 3 have blown turbo's, all 3 have had water pumps go out, all in less than 500K and 5 yrs. That darn ol' unreliable 2000 Mack of mine with it's Mack engine that only had one small fuel leak, one water pump failure, and 3 turbo failures in 9 yrs and 978K miles. -

Yeah, the thing I hated the most was the seat, it was uncomfortable as hell and we tried to replace it once and becuase of the cab design couldn't get one to fit properly. So far, knock on wood, my '09 has been great, last dealer trip was in Sept. and that was for some final non-engine warranty work. -
The last Mack I had was a 81 F786.Drove it for 8 years from 90 to 98. Great truck , best motor ever from reliability point. Agents here in South Africa dropped the ball and all of us who had Macks.I now have Cummins,Cat,Detroit,Mercedes,Volvo,DAF, and MAN powered class 8 trucks. Biggest problems with Detroit's with low quality fuel but they seem to have that problem sorted now. Pity Mack abandoned us when they did.

My grandfather drove Macks for over 40 years I learned to drive on a Mack and have driven Macks throughout my career. I have a friend that has a 1976 R model with several million miles on it and it still works every day.The company I work for now when I started with them in 1993 had a 91 I ran it till 2007 sold it to a farmer and it's still working. I now have a 2002 and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.also I might add I've had very little down time with all the Macks I have driven over the years. Some say todays macks are not what they used to be but then you can say that about all trucks now.Look how many of the B models that are still working today when was the last time you saw a fifty year old frightliner still working? I'm just saying.........

If I had a choice my heart would say Mack. Did over 1 million miles in my first ever class 8 F series.By 70's standards not bad as it had cab and seat suspension.Good , rather very good on fuel. Never had a break down that needed a tow.Now that Mack abandoned us here in South Africa , Volvo has taken a good market share. The Volvos we get here are a lot different to what you get State Side. They are a premium truck at a premium price compared to the American offerings. There for this side of the world I would take a Volvo over a MACK as muck as it pains me to say.If I was your side of the pond it would be Mack I think.

My '09 is almost two years old and I still enjoy it, hate the dealer, but still enjoy the truck. Dealer service sucks, the last time it was in for 4 days and they only fixed 1 of the 4 complaints, claimed they couldn't duplicate the other 3, apparently the mechanic is deaf, blind, and a ######.

Lots of MECHANICS like that and not just at your MACK dealer.
