I drove midwest region from 2005 to 2008. I was wondering what happened to the idle air? Two of the main truck stops I went to Lake Station and Gary Indiana TA'S always had it. It was forcing us to have to pull in nose first into parking spots. Another thing it seemed like almost no one used it and was a complete waste of space, time money and effort.

Ok I was thinking maybe they removed all of the equipment and put it in a landfill.

Idle air had/has a problem .. well, more than one really. Firstly they are/were poorly maintained to the point of making people sick. I.E. mold. I was in HVAC for several years after getting out of a truck while the kid grew up. After getting back in the seat some 20 years later, I know about HVAC and what can happen with filters not being changed, condensate drains not being open, coils not being cleaned, etc. Secondly, with APU's on a lot of trucks now, Idle Air is a waste of money. Money the driver has to pay most times. No company that buys APU's for the truck will reimburse a driver for Idle Air cost. Even if the APU is broken, most companies will just tell you to idle the truck until you can get to a shop. I think the new "truck stop electrification" sites will go the same way as Idle Air. Companies spend the money on APU's with inverters rather than make it into an RV with transfer switches, elec. outlets, etc. and still have an inverter if you can't "pull in and plug in"

I won't consider using them until they A: provide the window adapter for free, and B: use non-recirculated air.
I'm a non-smoker, and I won't use one that a smoker has used. -

Albert lea MN Petro has idle air.
My truck had the plates for idle air in it. They sit in my basement now -
idle air went bankrupt and was sold the new owners would not allow the TA truckstop to have solo use of the system and when idle air went and installed units at pilot TA pull it plug and returned the equipment. so now you can find more idle airs mainly out west but no longer at the TA
