I got put on Losartin Potassium. I'm about to get off of it entirely for the first time a couple of decades after losing 47 lbs my blood pressure is really good these days.
Some tips for lowering blood pressure. Go early in the morning for your physical. Don't eat or drink anything before you go.silverspur, lual and Jubal Early Times Thank this. -

Place I go to, if your b/p is high, they take you to a quiet room and have you sit in a massage chair. She waited until I was nodding off, then snuck up and put the cuff on me. I passed. But since I take BP meds I still only get a one year card.
What is the effect on driver certification based on FMCSA hypertension stages?
Answer:
A driver with a diagnosis of hypertension on treatment should have at least an annual certification.
A CMV driver with a Blood pressure (BP) 140/90 may be certified for 2 years.
First time BP elevated:
- Stage 1 - BP 140-159/90-99 Certification Period 1 year
- Stage 2 - BP 160-179/100-109 Certification Period 3 months as one time certification. Within the 3 months, if the blood pressure is below 140/90, the driver may receive 1 year certification.
- Stage 3 - BP Reading >180/110 Disqualified. When the blood pressure is less than 140/90, the driver can be certified at 6 month intervals.

, BP is a funny thing, and not ha-ha funny. I can't deny the good it does being aware of such a condition, but BP is contingent on so many factors. I say, much of the BP meds are prescribed inadvertently, why? Oh, come on, it's the healthcare system we're talking about. I've been on BP meds for 15 years, caught at a routine health exam. It was something like 180/120, or something, and the dr. immediately put me on Benazipril and Amlodipine. Almost overnight, my BP was within limits, but not low, by any means. On subsequent visits, my BP was all over the place WITH meds. One time, it was high, the dr. said what did you eat? Apparently chocolate does wonders to elevate it. My latest exam for more pills, yielded something like 147/95. not high, but not DOT either. After sitting for a while( 5 minutes), she came back, it was 138/85. I even asked, are you giving me pills for the 1st reading? She said no, but I bet they do. I tried the beet powder crap, awful, and did nothing but cost me $20 bucks. Most health plans pay for meds, mine are paid by SS, but it's a lot like worn tires. You better do something soon. I think, like most healthcare schpiels, it's overblown, but if it's just a couple pills, why not? Exercise would probably do the same thing, but as we age, exercise isn't very popular.

Lots of good information here. That said, you can get a 2 year card again if you are able to lower your blood pressure below 140/90 without meds. The best way to lower your blood pressure is to lose weight. I lost 40 pounds a few years back (215 down to 175) and my blood pressure went way down. My problem is that when I go for my DOT physical I get super nervous thinking I can lose my job if I don't get through this and suddenly my BP spikes to above 140/90. I then ask to lay down and relax for a few minutes and when they come back it is down to normal.

I have white coat syndrome. The Doctor asked me to do Valsalva Maneuver, equalize pressure in my ears. Worked like a charm. It is the same maneuver I use in scuba diving when the dive is in deeper water. I routinely monitor BP as it is a silent killer. The Doctor looked at my daily records from my phone that is bluetooth paired with my A&D BP monitor. No issues since.
