This is a 12.7 litre i assume. Is it possible to get 500hp/1800tq with factory detroit parts? Did the ecm tunes go this far in 93?

In 1993 the ratings only went to 470HP (as per Wikipedia's entry on the Series 60). I'm not an expert, but if the engine is in good condition, I don't see 500+ w/ 1800TQ as a hard target to reach with just an ECM tune. PDI offers tunes for the DDEC III right on their website, and I know of a few tuners around the country that have them for the DDEC III as well.

NWMAXI, your '98 was a DDEC IV, and those could do 500/1800 from the factory. DDEC III's didn't.

    NWMAXI Thanks this.

Was there any differences in piston composition and cam profile between the early and late motors?

Both the III's and the early IV's had 2-piece pistons w/ steel crowns. Later IV's (2003 & after) all have 1-piece steel pistons.

Honestly not sure about the cam profiles, although with as many different part numbers there are for Series 60 cams,I'm sure there were differences.

There is minor differences in ddecII and III's pistons but a few cam profiles. There is only one commen ddecII cam I'm familiar with and a few ddecIII cams. A good upgrade for a ddecII is the cam.

A 1993 ddc s60 should be a ddec 2 if it still is, the best they came with that year was 450 hp @ 1450 tq..Custom ecm tuning can be set to whatever you desire. But as said if in good condtion 550 hp should hold up well .If you want to make 550 hp with parts only you will need injectors ,turbo and camshaft with the 450 aussie 0000 cert.hope this helps.

    i'd go all out.

bigger pistons and valves. cam. injectors. turbo. high flow muffler and straight manifold. no air filter. and a pdi tune.

crank that baby up to 1000 horses.

    550 is too weak. :biggrin_25519:
