I see drivers complaining about getting black marks put on their DAC reports. You have to understand the real reason DAC is there--the control drivers. To control their options, really. When a company has high turnover, that company can take heed and fix whatever it is that is causing the turnover or, more commonly, they can revert to dirty trickery and dishonesty. Even though DAC is a good thing when used the right way, it can, and is, used by companies in dishonest ways to keep their drivers from being able to leave them. Yeap. Companies with high turnover will put black marks on drivers' DAC reports to keep them from being able to move on to better jobs. When you have DAC marks, that makes you less attractive to another carrier and less able to quit and go to something better. Watch out for this practice, and have a lawyer in the background to help you clear off any unjustifiable DAC marks from your record. As we experienced drivers know, companies don't really give a rat's rear about safety. Companies use DAC to control their drivers' prospects, to keep them from being able to leave and move on to greener pastures, and to lower their turnover.
What DAC is really about. It's not about safety

Around 90% of medium-to-large trucking companies use DAC reports in their hiring process. You can run from your past, but you can't hide it.
Hi, It really irks me that my perception of this outfit seems to deem a person guilty-guilty of something------kind of like if your on or have a DAC report-chances are it isnt good/honest.They are supposed to be bound by the FCRA.Maybe im out of line-but F stands for FAIR.Ive got a few folders that are full of safety awards, atta boy diploma's,passed inspections,etc-----------are they on my dac?NOPE.
Seems like theres good n bad on a credit report-but not good n bad on a dac.Wouldnt it be great if we can change that?
For me-at 53 yrs old n owning my 2 trucks-i could give a rats *** about DAC.I feel for the younger up n coming Truckers of America. And the even younger ones just getting their cdl today. This industry is taxing enough on a person-now lets add "the dac scare tactic"----------sorry but bull****!
Not much i can do about it-but i do write to my congressman,i do write to the dot------------and now that the Tipster has brought it up(which i thank you)i will write more n again for all of us.There's more i wish to say-but what i think is imperative is Hey Fellow Truckers-dont let dac change you----------if you feel threatened,if you dont feel comfortable,if you dont feel safe,if you just want to tell your boss to kiss your ***-------------just do it.Your happiness n safety is far more important then some private(for prophit company)slamming you n certainly not helping-Fair reporting/good n bad.
Over n out. -
I never cared about my DAC. Good companies don't use it or if they do, know it's mostly BS. I'm amused when a driver comes on here afraid to death of DAC. I only worked for one company that used DAC and that one was one too many.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. -
DAC schmack.....It's all whack.
I never worked for a company that uses such garbage to judge me. If I go to an interview and a DAC report is mentioned, the interview is over. I've worked too hard, and have too good of a record for it to be trashed by some unscrupulous idiot behind a desk that has an axe to grind. I'll find other work before all thatHotH2o Thanks this. -
DAC-- or HireRight as they are known today does fall under the fair credit reporting act. The service is not specifically designed to hurt or tarnish the reputations of drivers. Trucking companies have a right to know who they are hiring and HireRight provides and investigative service to meet that demand.
The service has come under fire in the past for arbitrarily posting erroneous entries on truck drivers transcripts. OOIDA filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of hundreds of drivers, and HireRight has since modified their reporting criteria. For example any trucking company cannot just call in and lie on a driver and HireRight will post it.
That is not to say that Hireright is not infallible. Just like your credit, there can be misleading or other mistakes on your transcripts. Drivers are encouraged to check their transcripts for any false information that may exist.
As I said before, trucking companies have a right to screen who is driving their 80,000 pound truck down an interstate. Believe it or not, HireRight is a necessary evil. One that I'm sure has prevented hundreds of bad drivers from getting on the highway around your family. -
Wow....you just found this out??? I've been telling small fleet owners for YEARS now to keep their top guys in line with DAC. Yes it is used to reduce turnover.
-
EZ Money Thanks this.

It's all about keeping drivers honest and reducing turnover.....I'm sure you wouldn't want to hire Johnny Jobhopper after he wrecks a truck and gets a DUI at his 10th company this year.
