We're looking to purchase a used 53 X 102 drop deck trailer. We're looking at East, Reitnouer or Transcraft. Is one brand better than the other. Or, should we look at a different brand than what we have in mind? We definitely need to go with an aluminum trailer as our truck is on the heavy side - KW W900L Studio Sleeper. We just sold an 06 Reitnouer Big Bubba 48 X 102 and never had any problems with it. We are getting ready to lease on with Mercer. I'm not sure what type of freight our driver is going to haul. I do know that he wants a ramp/leveler system. And, the built in weight gauge would be great too. Is there anything else we should look for? He said that alot of the Mercer guys are telling him that we should run 17.5s instead of 22.5s. What are your thoughts guys? Thanks!!
What brand drop deck should we buy?

If running 17.5 you better hope he keeps the tires up to good pressures.
I have no suggestions on what brand, I run a lowboy.. do you have your heart set on Mercer or looking at other companies. The people I'm with are looking for good drivers and trks -

nikkiborm Thanks this.

I'm over 17.5's personally. I just don't use the capability near enough, to deal with such a low trailer. I have a doonan platinum which is all aluminum except for the actual rails which are steel. Good luck, and I wouldn't buy s Transcrap, maybe a Benson, but never Transcrack again. ( I had 2)

Mac? Wilson? Doonan? Would put them above a Transcraft...

Don't forget MAC trailers out of alliance ohio. They build a good trailer.

I had my reitnouer built approx 4 yrs ago. It has a decent amount of goodies on it. So it's not a run of the mill fleet trailer, but I really like it. I've had a lot of different trailers over the years and as far as step decks go, you won't find any better aluminum trailer then reitnouer or mac. They both are in the same class as far as price and quality go. For tire size, I'm not a fan of 17.5. Had them, and def prefer 22.5. Unless you have dedicated good paying freight for 17.5, I would stay away. But that's up to you.

SO, being a door slammer myself, and a local one at that. All I have ever had was 22.5's.
What is the advantage of a 17.5 tire?
I know nothing of the sort with them. Never even heard of such a creature. OR is that what I have been seeing on RGN's.nikkiborm Thanks this.
