Hi, I'm new to the the tractor trailer business, I own a tandem dump truck but decided to buy a tractor. I been looking around for work and came across a company that does power only loads. What can you guys tell me about those kind of gigs? Is it worth it ? Thanks

Power only is basically, tractor only.
    You pull their trailers.

It pays good "when" the loads are available.

The company may deliver trailers from factories. Or some company just need a trailer(s)(may be loaded or not) taken somewhere. When I was an O/O we would sometime get WalMart, Ups or FedEx loaded trailers to deliver.

I pulled one once. But had to wait a week before i actually pulled it. The trailer was basically rusted junk but it had brand new brakes, adjusters, and tires. Just needed the lights fixed and a current registration.

According to the company that owned it. That trailer had been getting dragged around with no issues and no one ever said a word. The company couldn't even find the registration. It had Texas plate 6 years expired.

The good part I guess would be to pull a new one from a Mfg. One way to a customer, they will let you find a load to haul and make some extra income. The down side would be when you're M/T and have the Trl. delivered, now to find another move.

Problem today is your CSA scores can take a beating if you get DOT'd while pulling someone's POS trailer.

Don't need to tell me that. I'm the only guy after 6 years who refused to pull the trailer till it was legal. That just goes to show the laziness of todays trucker.

I don't know when this trailer was dragged to the job sight. But that job sight was only a 1 year in to construction. So that trailer HADN'T been sitting there for 6 years.

I dont think it's laziness, i think its more so the company drivers that know they'll earn less money by being the driver who blows a day going to get a company trailer fixed.
Not that it's right but I bet drivers think why should i get punished in pay for doing the right thing and getting trailers fixed.

When i was a company driver i didnt get paid the miles or hours wasted getting trailers fixed... tell you buddy i was pissed doing free labor!

Just another f-ed up part of this industry.
