For context, I’m an inexperienced driver looking for cdl training and having a difficult time finding someone willing to hire me and train me. I’ve applied to about 8 cdl jobs in the last day and half. Most of them say that ive been assigned a recruiter yet no one has even attempted to reach out to me yet. Am I just being impatient?

Just curious, what companies have you applied to?

You all are not reading what some of us are posting, there are too many drivers and the revolving door has slowed down a lot so there isn’t the turnover that used to be.

This is a carrier employment market and will be for a while, and if one person gets re-elected, then it will be for a long time while if the other person gets re-elected, then it will end pretty soon after they take office.

for a long time I had to weed through 100 to 150 applications to find one or two drivers to interview, but now I got a list of 20 that I am going to interview, most of them have clean or spotless records and good quality work records. In turn I have tightened up my standards a lot, booted a few drivers who were to say the least “disappointing” thanks to this market.

Right, call and say, I'm checking on my application that I submitted a few days ago. This way they know you're serious.

The industry is dead slow right now. THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. If there isn't much freight to haul there is not much reason to be hiring inexperienced drivers. Don't go to CDL school until you have found where you will work unless you like paying for a CDL but not having a job.

I would agree with your general sentiment, however, many starter companies will turn and burn low experience drivers because they know they can pay them bottom of the barrel compensation and the drivers will just have to suck it up and deal with it. If it doesn't work out for someone don't worry because the next crop of drivers that are willing to go through CDL school to get a job with the starter company are waiting around the corner, rinse and repeat.

Yet we have numerous brand new CDL drivers that can't get hired. The plan you describe works well when the industry is busy. Background checks, drug tests, orientation, hiring drivers costs money. When a company isn't making good money they won't just keep burning bags of money to hire people that haven't driven and probably never worked even 40 hours in a week, let alone 70-90 in a week and pretend it was 70.
