I have well over 10 years of verifiable experience with well know companies, over a million miles. No accidents, no tickets, no convictions. I even taught at a truck driving school for two years. Had my own authority and hauled cars as an independant for 2 years, then got off the road for family reasons, about a year and a half ago.
The problem is, now every company I talk to , seems to think I have forgotten everything I ever knew, and want me to go back to truck school before they will hire me, and then want me to go out with a "trainer" for 4-6 weeks.
I think it is the insurance that is driving this, but does Western Express participate in this madness as well? I mean, what other profession makes you start over from scratch if you take a year and a half off? None that I ever heard of.
Any suggestions? I live in Arizona, and would like to stay West, Southeast, and Southwest, with a flatbed.
western hiring newbies?

Fill an application out and see what they say. You know working at a trucking school this is simply an insurance thing. I think 'No Tarps" said Maverick does not require a refresher?......maybe he will correct me if I'm wrong.

Western Express has great trucks and trailers and they keep very good care of their equipment and do not give you a run around if you report to them that equipment needs to be fixed. Their oreantation is exellent and provides alot of good education and is very well put together and great hospitality during you days of oreiantation.
they are pro forced dispatch,(they have ways of punishing you for refusing loads, like leaving you sit with no work for extensive periods of time away from home)and pro Anti driver saftey however when it comes to their money or legal situations you may encounter out on the highway. they will not stand behinde a driver if it means standing up to big government,They like many other large Trucking companies are operating out of fear as the csa2010 system is serving its purpose in putting smaller companies out of operation. You will be required now to log into the new EOBR system they have made policy. If you request any provisions be made for you so that you can do your job with inside the law,and so that you can have controll and help from the safety department so that you are not forced to drive in unsafe conditions you may be told this subject is not up for debate and you may be fired for not logging your name and social security number into their EOBR system as I was and now acused of,quiting my job to spend more time with my Family..Fired for misconduct by failure to comply with new company policy leaving them with no choice but to fire me there for saying i quit...also just got a new reaon in today the filed with their law firm..employee fired for failing a random drug screen. Whith this being said though you may want to give them a try if your a brand new driver,as their trucks are very nice and driver user freindly, just be real careful legaly, cause they do have a history of leaving their drivers to haing legaly regaurdless of situation as well as pressuring drivers to run illeagal at the same time boasting a great legal beagle EOBR system. Basicly it insures all violations rest on the drivers shoulders as does the drivers job if you refuse to meet customer demands or western expresses demands due to it may risk saftey of your self or others or your legal jeporady.
I think western express will hire you no problem and with out going back to a truck driving school.and I waas out west fro them last year and had dealings with the fontanna terminal dispatchers,They wer very cool to work with and kept me moving nice out their.I think you will be happy with the California terminal.
they do have a new pay program now that is applied in a bonus form,if you qulify for all bonuses for the quarter you will be paid additional cpm's for that quarter.and it will bring you up to almost 34cpm avrg. ( bonus program came out when csa 2010 hit almost full force as well as the company EOBR policy ) They used to pay 33cpm but cut eveyrones pay a few years ago, then started this new progam up about 8 months ago.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 18, 2011
