Well he has only worked for Western Express this year. He worked for Schneider and a couple others last year. He has not found a company that treats him well. A close friend of mine works at TMC and he would tell me if it was a bad place to work.

My husband had a load that was supposed to be in chicago at 8pm one night. He called pulled over by DOT because he had a headlight out. When he called Western Express he was told he would have to wait in line behind the other 5 calls. He called back and told them what time the load was supposed to deliver (by this time it was almost 8) they sent him a comp check (is that what they are called???) but then the only place to get a headlight was closed. He was told to sit tight and to get one in the morning and deliver his load in the morning. He missed his other load because of that crap!

I ran the Northeast 90% of the time.
But I see many of their trucks in FL. Hmmmmm.......
I did get miles - No complaints there. I did get decent loads from time to time (mowers, water heaters, you know...)
The only thing that I can say 'good' about western is that I had a decent dispatcher. We had good communication.
But the rest of the company is (like you said) Looney Tunes -
ill bet he keeps and extra headlight and some odd tools in the truck know and other things that can hold you up like bulbs for brakelights an extra gallon of oil some zip-tie some duct tape some hose clamps a tire gauge and a bunch of other stuff a good driver should carry over the road.
Iam sorry but ill say it if nobody else will you husband isnt going to find that great job where they pay him more than anyone else will
or give him the best truck they have or even buy him a new one so he can get his load where it needs to be and when.things happen and itll cost you and him MONEY downtime costs you money
O/O might be the way to go if you cant make enough to pay the bills and feed the family you know whos fault it is and who to blameTnVols Trucking Thanks this. -

I worked for them for 6 months. I quit because of late pay. Four months after I quit, I finally get my pay. They are inept, unorganized and probably the most untalented bunch of loosers I have ever had the displeasure to deal with.

I was with Western Express for 6 months. I came from a small co. hauling tankers for 4 yrs with a 12 yr cdl history. NO infractions, accidents, tickets...nothing. Perfect driving record including never late due to my own negligence. I was looking for a local dedicated account when I called the recruiter and spoke to "Edna" who told me about the Georgia Pacific account 20 minutes from my home in Lebanon, Tn. Home every night, .34/mile, assigned tractor to take home, .01 raise in 6 months and another in a yr. Called the mgr. "Ken" and the real position open was a night yard dog for $12/hr. Didn't take it. Edna called me back a month later and said the job had now opened up. I verified it and put in my notice. At orientaion end I was told pay was now .31/mi and if I didn't like it I could go.
The drivers on that account are forced to run 14 to18 hrs and still be back in time for their shift start time no matter what their break. The mgr (a lying coward) when many times told about dangerous equipment (no trailer brakes...etc) always says he'll fix them, but sends equip right back out with no regard to driver safety. I reported a tractor with almost bald drive tires and one of them with a chunk out down to the belts that he wanted me to run. He said he'd put it out of service, but after I left in another truck, sent it out over the mountains, under a load, at night, in the sleet and rain not bothering to warn the next driver. When I got back and found out I was so angry that I yelled at him for recklessly endangering the lives of his drivers for his d*** loads! I was pissed because he not only doesn't pay attention, but doesn't care. I reported him to the dedicated fleet mgr Eric, and was told my job was not in jeopardy. That day Ken would not respond to any phone calls or quallcom messages. The next morning he fired me for being beligerant and denied lying to me even with witnesses! This same mgr ignored reports of a night yard dog driver drinking on the job until after he told the guy who reported him. That driver was assaulted and injured by the drinker. There is now a law suit against the mgr, western, and GP.
In my 6 months there I received a gold watch reward for 22 positive DOT inspections for NEVER being late and impeccable log books. When I raised a fuss about negligence and driver safety, I was fired. No wonder Westerns' safety rating is now over 100% even after the huge DOT audit.
A word of advice...if you're going to quit, make sure you are where you need to be or have someone waiting for you. They will confiscate the tractor and not provide any way home. I knew this and drove my own vehicle to the yard so I wouldn't get stranded like they are famous for doing to drivers. If they have to come pick up the truck, they WILL charge you $250-$500 recovery out of your paycheck.
Famous Western Express mgrs quote, "My job description does NOT include making drivers happy. They are just a necessary inconvenience for me to do MY job."
Western does NOT make the bulk of their profits running freight! They make it buying and selling used trucks and trailers. They take the lowest bid when buying trucks and turn them over for more than they paid for them after putting on low miles and freight profits. That's why they boast such nice equipment. The drivers are only there to help them turn over their fleet. That's why the drivers are NOT important to Western Express. All they need are warm bodies to put some miles on trucks. It's just a facade to sell trucks.
If you want a real job with a company that cares or is the least bit loyal to their drivers, it is most definately NOT Western Express. Look for the smallest company you can find. -
i heard a nasty rumor the other day on the CB, and am hoping for some clarification.
i heard western express has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.
any truth to that?? and if so for what reasons?
