Hi all, I posted her a bit ago that I am looking to get back on the roor ad after taking a break. I drove OTR and dedicated for Central Refigerated for 2 years, had a couple minor preventables, didn't get #### canned, but left the road for a few months.

I live in Dayton, Oh, and was looking for regional work. Werner offered me Dollar General or wal-mart from gas city, IN. I am not in the least interested in DG (I am a driver, not a lumper) but highly interested in the wally world gig.

Can anyone give me more details, miles, what a typical run is like? Is it mostly drop&hook at the DC and drop at the stores? What kind of trucks? APU's I heard from an werner OTR driver that wal-mart reqired them to have APU's but I am not sure that is true. Do they get you home, recruiter said that it would be weekly hometime, but again that is coming from a recruiter.
What are the trucks governed at? My Volvo's with CRS were castrated at 62, and werner trucks would pass me all day long.

Anyway anyone with info let me know.

    Thanks

    Let me check my logbook

My hubby was on the Tomah, WI Wal-mart account. It was not mostly drop and hook for him, it was picking up loaded trailers at the DC and delivering to anywhere from 1 to 5 stores, and sometimes grabbing something to haul back to the DC. Some DC's may be different.

They had some Pete's, but mainly KW T-600's. APU's were and are required by wal-mart, as you cannot idle. They did get hubby home, but it was more like every two weeks, but if you are very close to the DC, you could get home more often. Werner is governed at about 63.

Good call on not being interested in Dollar General. You would end up with some pretty PITA places to get into.

As for the miles if you get 2k a week right now you are doing well. Pay is started at about 31/mile now I think. You do get stop pay for all stops but the first. You will rarely drop and hook anything. Most loads are 2 to 5 stores and yes you will pick up back hauls fairly often. I think the average length of load for us now is under 300. If you prefer to drive major highways this account may not be for you.

Yes the trucks mostly have apu's but that does not mean they work. The newer ones have battery pack powered ac which I have heard sucks as it only runs for about 7 hours before you need to recharge batteries. May get more time in cooler weather but it has been hot lately.

You will get home weekly but only for a reset. You will have to drive yourself as the trucks do not go anywhere but the DC for hometime, does not matter if you live next door the truck does not go home. If you live in dayton be sure they will let you on as you are outside the area they are looking to hire from. They may take you anyway as we have people that live further now, but they want to hire closer.

The trucks will go 64.5 on flat ground. The gas city account is not what it once was. If you can and will run you can make money, but most newer people have to prove themselves before they will let you make much. Most new drivers on the account run a load a day and often have long breaks. It can be frustrating.

I have been there nearly 3 years and made no less than 48k each year. You will work long hard hours to make that and I am not even sure a new driver at the new pay scale they have can make that. I choose to still be there as it is close to home for me and I am home frequently.

    Hope that helps a little

Id like to know where the Gas City , IN. Walmart DC delivers to. Im currently driving for Werner out of the DC in Garrett,IN. If I could find the DC that delivers to Plymouth, and Valporaiso IN. I wouldnt be working far from home. I just started a couple weeks ago. I have only been getting between 250-350 miles a day. Only 2 countable drops a day.

Gas city delivers most of Indiana, some of western Ohio, a few stores in Michigan, Joliet and some Chicago land stores in IL. That is the cold side which is mainly what Werner does there. We still run a little dry and that includes much more of Michigan, but you won't see those trips often.

Gas city does deliver to both Plymouth and Valparaiso and most any other Walmart near there. I would not count on seeing either store often though. To be honest you probably would not get many more miles in Gas City.
