Hi all. I am graduating from my cdl school on Friday and I am scheduled to begin orientation the following Wednesday for Werner. I chose Werner because I am a marine Corp veteran and can take advantage of the on the job training program they offer and can use my GI Bill. I know pay for New drivers isn't the best so I figured every litle bit helps. Any advice/experience with the program?
Werner apprenticeship program?

My buddy started with them about 3 years ago. He did his year as a team driver with a guy he graduated CDL school with and moved on. From what I remember he was gone for about 9 weeks right out of the chute with his trainer until he got his required hours in. (I do believe he had the option to take off a week at around 4 weeks, but chose to plow it all in at once. He stayed in a hotel when his trainer took home time)
As for pay, yeah, you are correct, you are going to be at the bottom of the barrel. My advice? Keep your nose clean, learn all you can. Maybe try to bid onto a dedicated acct. after you accrue a few months experience? Much more predictable pay/hometime etc. Get a year in and a whole lot more doors will open for you....
Oh yeah, thanks for your service my friend, and Semper Fi and good luck to you!

Speaking as a former Werner driver and fellow veteran, my advice is to steer clear. Werner is FUBAR. What the GI Bill does for you the lack of pay is going to take away. They have a constant revolving door of students they try to take advantage of. That's my 2 cents for what it's worth. Good luck!
