One of the O/O's I dispatch for called in and asked me what the weight limit on a Freightliner top bunk is. He is wanting to take his son out with him, but he is a bit on the chunky side, well more than a little bit, the guy finished high school last year and is over 400 lbs. Now for obvious reasons I don't want to lose a client because of his son collapsing the top bunk and crushing him on impact. So i'm wanting to know the weight limit on the bunk just in case it can't hold that much weight. I haven't been able to find out on the internet. I guess it must be a closely guarded secret.

If he can't climb up there without assistance, he's probably too fat lol.

Tell him to give the son the bottom bunk and he take the top bunk, That's what I'd do.

From some of the folks I've seen out here, 400 lbs is probably only 1/2 the limit.

Yup. Gravity rule..LOL Really I don't care what it's rated I wouldn't be able to sleep with a 400lb er up there but from some teams I've seen..it's done.:)

I hope he has an elevator installed in his Freightshaker! If not, a Hoyer lift may do! :)

Depending on the age of the truck, he may be able to still read the weight limit sticker on the top bunk.

Thats what I would do. Particularly if he has any intention of laying up there while bouncing down the road.

How ever... I'm in a Columbia with the tall condo and while my wife and I share the bunk, we keep about 400+ lbs of 'stuff' on the top bunk. Took the mattress out and we keep everything from 4 - 5 cases of soda, case of water bottles plus 3-4 gallons of water, hibatchi grill, charcoal, dirty cloths basket, etc etc.. well you get the idea. It stuffed up there. So I would say as long as the side shelfs that hold the bed up there is in good shape, I think big boy should be ok.

Although concern about him (up there) is commendable..I still would be more worried about who is on the bottom bunk if it were to "drop". :)

Had a 'dancer' at a Gentleman's Club tell me about her and her boyfriend " gettting busy " ( her words , not mine ) in the top bunk one time. Said they broke it, both came tumbling down. She was a big girl, probably around 240.
I did not pay to see her dance topless, but she offered.
