Can anyone tell me what chips way per cubic ft or cubic yard. I've googled it and come up with 35-40lbs per cuft. But that doesn't require a large chip trailer. What is the smallest trailer to haul 22 or 23 tons of chips? What size trailer do you pull and how many tons of product?

    Thanks

Would moisture be a large factor?

Probably. Soft wood vs hardwood as well.. but I'm guessing a chip hauler can explain the variables pretty quick

Cubic yard will weigh approximately 700 lbs for straight wood chips, 900 for shredded bark. More people haul by volume than by weight. I have pulled 45,48, 53’ walking floors, all depends on what’s moving. A 45’ level full, you won’t be up to legal weight with wood chips

Usually straight chips or grindings that aren’t mixed with dirt I’m about 28-29 ton without shoveling corners in, of course wet/dry, type of wood, compost etc all change it, 90 yards at 58k is just over 600 lbs a yard

IMG_4700.jpeg 42 ft possum belly. With white fur that’s green and heavy, can easily haul 30 tons or more. Could box it out and be around 100,000 lbs.

Thanks everyone. I don't have a lot of details yet on the actual chips but in my part of the world it almost has to be hardwood chips. Legal gross will be 80,000lbs tandem axle. 70 yard trailers. These numbers are adding up to at least being feasible.

    Thanks

Totally depends on the species of the wood and the moisture content.
I've hauled loads of green Redwood that grossed almost 100k with the trailer not full. Pine that's been decked for a long time, you could heap the trailer and maybe hit 65k.

I pulled 45 feet long, 12 1/2 tall, 96 inches wide Peerless chip trailer hauling fresh pine woodchips no problem getting 25 tons in the trailer.
