I've weighed my truck empty..
Steer-10280
Drive-10700
Trailer-6720
Total----27700
Got a 50k load.put 20k by landing gear.
7k middle ..11.5 on first trailer axel.
And 11.5 on last trailer axel...went to scale. Steer 10.900...drive 27k..trailer 38,900...how does this even add up ??
Weight distribution

Pretty smiple. You put too much over the trailer axles .. why did you only put 7 k on the front of the trailer ?
-
I'm allowed 40k on a spread axel -
Assuming the 50k load is accurate: 27,700 empty truck + 50,000 load = 77,700
Loaded truck weight: 10,900 + 27,000 + 38,900 = 76,800
77,700 - 76,800 = 900 pounds diff
900/7.1 = approximately 127 gallons of dieselLast edited: Jun 14, 2023
Last Call Thanks this. -
What's throwing me off is this..
The 20k I put on landing gear..620 went to steer..15,680 on drive ??that'll equal 16,300...20k-16,300=3,700..
Also the rear weight 11.5k + 11.5k=
23k + 6720(empty weight)=29,720..
So the 7k and the extra3,700 from the front 20k by landing gear shifted to the rear ??? -
I think your logic is flawed. The weight is not all going to one place. Some of the 7k in the middle went to the tractor drives but a lesser percentage than the 20k because it is further away. Some of the 20k is going to the rear of the trailer. If what you say is the middle is the center of the trailer van or flat, the 7k weight is closer to the front trailer axle than it is to the trailer king pin. So much more of that 7k will go to the rear of the trailer.Last Call Thanks this. -
How long is ur trailer ? A 48ft flatbed you have weight to far back compared to how its loaded in the front... Im guessing you have a 53fter since you said its loaded over the last axle as well... If you move that weight over your trailer axles further up towards the middle it will transfer that weight back to the drives... Think of the trailer as a giant teeter totter... More weight on one side vs the other is going to move all the total weight more towards the heavier side..
beastr123, gentleroger, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
Is it a california spread?
-
2.... again do you know for a fact you loaded exactly to the pound you put exactly that much weight in each spot
3. Like others have said I don't think you have any conception of weight transfer
4th do you realize in theory you should load the front half of your trailer alittle more vs the back half ? Again there are variables that have to be considered with my 4 th point
They must not have taught you any thing about weight transfer or loading in CDL school..
If you really want to understand you should probably give more info on the questions asked by the memembersLast edited by a moderator: Jun 15, 2023
gentleroger, Big Road Skateboard and cke Thank this. -
2) it was 4 coils....
3) I've been doing this for a few years, I'm trying to get a understanding on how the weight is distributed,
4) my landing gear is where I start to load, don't want to go towards my 5th.
I have a 48ft spread axel trailer...
I've hauled 80k on a 3 axel trailer.
40k landing gear another 40k on the middle axel of the 3..
Not trying to go back and forth. It's much simpler with 1 coil.. the issue is these smaller coils. Thanks for your respond..
