I'm about to complete CDL school in Kansas City but I'll have a family obligation during weekdays for the next several months. I've been trying to find a company willing to hire a new driver part time for weekends only but have not had any luck. Does such a position exist?? Are there any sneaky/hidden ways to find possible positions like this? I've searched specific companies (large & small), linkedin, craigslist, and city & county websites - anywhere else I should look?
After my family obligation ends I would transition to full time - willing to do local, OTR, teams, or whatever. I'm very interested in car hauling but I understand that I probably need some experience before I'd be able to do that anyway. But I am a very good driver (just no CDL experience) with a clean record and a quick learner. I'm also willing to do touch freight & physical labor. Any advise would be appreciated.
Weekend only gig for new driver in Kansas City?

Maybe a temp service so you can work when you want to.

Just in case you weren't already aware -- the current CDL job market sux -- but especially so for drivers with no previous CDL driving experience.
Expect a chilly reception in most places when you ask for a weekend only gig -- with no real experience to offer along with it.
This situation may....or may not....improve by sometime next year.
To stack the deck better in your favor -- if you don't already have the relevant CDL endorsements....tanker, hazmat, & doubles/triples -- go back & get them, before you want to go full time (hazmat in particular).
In the current CDL job market, you will need them -- to be more competitive.

Almost any truck co. will want your full attention to be hired. This means you commit yourself fully. NOT for weekends only.

Some good news -- I would submit that KC is probably one of the better places to look for CDL work.
Lots of inbound/outbound freight, with good lanes.

You might try a mail contractor. Alot of those have weekend only runs.

Like Chinatown suggested. You might try a temp agency then. Weekend only with zero experience will be hard to find.

No experience, and right out of the gate a weekends only job? Yeah....no. Part time trucking is borderline nonexistent. Weekends only doesn't fulfill the needs of the industry at all. It's better to take care of all your business at home, then hit the road full throttle. Also, it's too many people that companies can hire full time to even bother with a less than part time driver.
