I was taught in cdl school to never wave at someone to move or back up. They said they view you as the professional and if the person you waved at causes an accident then they could point it at you because they said they were following what the pro said. He said best advice is to sit there and stare at them until they move and if they don't just stare really hard while inching at them if you can. What do you guys think?

It can be construed that you are directing traffic. Some companies don't even want you to courtesy flash light. I was limping along at 20mph Friday with the flashers on. Two lane country road. It was dark so you could see any headlights. People were stacked up behind me like firewood. I finally leaned out and tried to get them to pass me. Probably wrong but I had no way to get off the road.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I have had people stop and help guide me into a spot. Depending on who and where if I follow their directions. But if you hit something it is still on you so there is no substitute for G.O.A.L.

What is the difference between "come on in" and "you big fungua!"?
That's why you want to avoid waving people in. -
I never wave anybody on. If they have the right of way I'll just sit there until they do something.

So you don't wave and the fool in your way doesn't move ? Now that's the way to keep America moving. ! Well, as they say, some people are followers and some are leaders. Carry on

In the situation: A lot of traffic is backed up at a light on a 4 lane road (maybe it has a left turn lane, maybe not), the stopped traffic is mostly accumulated in the left lane. I will be in the left lane and try and hold short not to obstruct busy driveways to my right. I have held up the international STOP sign with my hand to keep people from turning in front of me into a driveway because they can't see traffic coming up in the right lane. And I have then subsequently told them it was safe to proceed. Maybe I've dodged bullets with this attitude, I don't know.
For me, every situation is different, sometimes I will motion others, sometimes I won't. I won't be a dick in most situations but I can usually recognize an "questionable" situation where maybe it's best to let others fend for themselves.Truckermania Thanks this.
