Anyone using a "wave oven"? Nu-wave and The Sharper Image are two manufactures. They use infrared heat to cook all kinds of things. It seems like they would be perfect for eating healthy on the road.

    simplyred1962 and BigJon310 Thank this.

I'm not a truck driver but have used a new wave in my house for the last three years. They are fantastic. I hardly even use my oven anymore. You can cook a frozen piece of meat right out of the freezer (steak, chicken, hamburgers) and it comes out better then if you thawed it and cooked it in your oven. IT's also very healthy. I know many people who have them and have never heard of anyone having any problems. They're also very easy to clean. I have two boys that love taking frozen 1/4 pound patties and making cheeseburgers. I don't think they draw many amps so it should be perfect for a truck. You can pretty much cook anything on it.

That's what I would wonder about - if you could run it on a plug in inverter...

It runs off of 110v so it shouldn't be a problem. It's also energy efficient so it doesn't draw much power.

Definitely not a task for a plug in inverter. These ovens are rated at 1500 watts, 120 volts, 12.5 amps. Would need a hard-wired inverter, rated for more than 1500 watts.

They advertise these ovens as energy efficient, but that is comparing them to standard household ovens. Any time you're talking about producing heat for cooking, the faster a device works the more power it needs. That's why the 12volt devices are relatively low heat with longer cooking times.

That's what I was kinda thinking, but wasn't sure - that and they get HOT around them too (from what I hear) wouldn't want it sliding and touching something without me knowing it and starting a fire - not cool!!

We checked into the Nu-Wave for the truck....will have to purchase a 3000 watt inverter before we can run it. But I really, REALLY want to get one. Get rid of the microwave, the toaster oven, and the crockpot....free up some space on the truck, not to mention we would be able to eat healthier.

Yeah man. I sure do. Just had Country Style Spare Ribs at dinner. I recommend the thing.
