Hello all, I am starting school at WCTC August 15th from 8-4:30 M-F until October 24th. I do not think they are PTDI and wanted to know if that makes a difference and if any of you have heard of the School. Also, if I may ask, is Milwaukee area a good place to base from for driving OTR? Will I be able to get runs from this area and back to it? Over 300 hours of schooling. I was also told that the school gets lots of companies coming in to recruit (Schneider, Roehl, JB Hunt among the names listed.) Does this seem to be a good idea and a good start? I drove a 26' Box Truck delivering retreads in Chicago for 8 years and a Limo in Chicago for 5, will that help at all? Thank you!
P.S. Sorry about misspelling Technical...

Most companies don't care if the school is PTDI certified or not. Call any company you're interested in and ask if they will hire from that particular school.
Do you have a cdl now for the box truck job?
Several good companies hire from your area. It's a good idea to start applications during the first week of school. Job offers will be contingent upon successfully completing the school course and having the required endorsements plus passport and TWIC if required.
Here's a few to look at:
Schuster
Britton Transport
Freymiller
Don Hummer Trucking
Magnum Ltd.
Abilene Motor Express
NTB Trucking
National Carriers
Tyson Foods
All the above hire new cdl grads even if the website has "experience required", so apply anyway.Teddy_Salad Thanks this. -
P.S. Thank you Chinatown...appreciate your help. I notice you are very helpful all over this forum. Glad you are here for us. -
TWIC is used for entry to chemical plants, rail yards, sea ports, military bases. It's nice to have, but costs money to acquire. Must go through a TWIC office which you can find on Google. Google : TWIC office Wisconsin. There's probably one in Chicago you can use also.
Passport or Passport Card is for Canada runs. Not all companies go to Canada or have forced Canada runs. If you can get TWIC and Passport before you graduate, it may help land a job you otherwise wouldn't qualify for.
Submit as many applications as you want; the more the better for you. This way you'll have plenty of time to chose the job offer you like best, before graduation.
I understand the wanderlust an OTR driver must have to be content with the job. We're not all cut out for office or factory work or even local truck driving work. I tried local for a short period of time and it was as horrible as sitting at a desk in an office or working in a factory.
The cdl school probably has never heard of any of those companies on that list. Some of the best jobs are the ones you only hear about on forums like this one.Last edited: Jul 27, 2016
Teddy_Salad and Puppage Thank this. -
Thanks again Chinatown. I spoke with an instructor from the school when I registered and he said not to get any endorsements yet (Hazmat, etc...) is that good or bad advice? I want to look good to any company I apply too. One final thing that may hurt me...I have a misdemeanor assault charge from about 8 years ago...no violence at all, just yelled at a guy trying to tow my car from my drive way. Spotless MVR and never a DUI or any drug issues. Clean cut family man.

The misdemeanor won't hurt you. Not sure if you can enter Canada though; can't even go to Canada with DUI.
Get all the endorsements now, don't wait. -
