Idling a semi truck for five minutes could cost you $1000 under new bill in Washington State
This bill would also apply to trucks EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL POWERED APUs!!!

The bill defines a “diesel-fueled auxiliary power system” as “any device that is permanently dedicated to the vehicle on which it is installed and provides electrical, mechanical, or thermal energy to the primary diesel engine, truck cab or sleeper berth, bus passenger compartment, or any other commercial vehicle cab, as an alternative to idling the primary diesel engine.”
First impression. WTF.
Loop hole. A portable generator not dedicated to the truck. Or not permanently mounted to the truck is legal to use?TheLoadOut, Suspect Zero and mjd4277 Thank this. -
The solution is simple: if states are going to outlaw trucks, then stop delivering loads to those states.

"The bill would also restrict the use of a diesel-fueled auxiliary power system for more than five minutes at any location within 100 feet of a restricted area, which would include individual or multifamily housing units, schools, hotels, motels, hospitals, senior care facilities, or child care facilities"TheLoadOut, Flat Earth Trucker, Magoo1968 and 2 others Thank this. -
The law appears to follow suit with other states & idling with an APU. I'm sure exemptions will follow like other states with temps, pets, etc.
The real question is will this exempt current epa regulated trucks (def trucks)?Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
So don’t deliver to those places.
Why freeze while they’re unloading you?TheLoadOut and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
And there’s no control over that unless you turn off the power switch on the APU directly-which you definitely don’t want to do in cold climates.TheLoadOut and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
With all the homeless camps there's probably not many spots more than 100 feet from a tent, sorry, "individual housing unit"

Hope they get them electric trucks going soon. Washington state may have a supply problem soon.
Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Everywhere I parked in the past in Washington was nowhere near those restricted areas . Technically a reefer unit wouldn’t pass either I’m thinking . I think this is more about noise than diesel pollution bothering people. PS unless it’s extremely cold we have many anti solutions available if you’re company can’t equip you with one ,they shouldn’t be in business.
Concorde and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this.
