My engine international DT466 is very dirty (dust, oil,...etc) and I need to clean it by wash gun.
I need to know what parts should I cover before cleaning and if I should you use degreaser

Just use a concentrate degreaser like Simple Green, cold water and a garden hose with a sprayer.

Don't spray water directly or forcefully onto the power steering gearbox as dirt can be forced past the seals.

Don't directly spray water with high pressure directly onto electrical connectors, ECM, or other sensitive electrical parts.

If I disconnected batteries and wash ECM area and dried it very well is that also will affect ECM. Because ECM is very dirty.

That should be fine, just don't drown it in alot of water and don't use high pressure to wash it off.

Honestly I've never covered anything ever when washing engines. I just avoid spraying directly on ECM's, wiring, plugs or anything that looks fragile. Never had an issue.

I do like to disconnect the battery ground though when possible. Just something that I do that makes me feel better.

Find the ECM and just avoid the area. Spray it with a degreaser and then hit it with warm or hot water.

The dealers I seen used high pressure washers and they seem not to have any issues.

Been pressure washing engines weekly for over 20 years. Never had a problem.

Just use common sence. Like dont stick the pressure washer directly into the alternator or ecm.

Degreaser the whole engine then steam off with the pressure washer. Done.

Simple green or degreasers help. But what helps more is heat. Hot pressure washer, along with the engine being up to temp helps the grime fall off. Plus the water evaporates off a warm engine fast too. Fan tips work much better than straight.

    SAR and spsauerland Thank this.
