We all know that Brokerage firms take a percentage of the Rate for their services. However ,through our own experience with Choptank Transport and hauling directly with the company that the product is being shipped from, we know for a fact they are taking 30% to 42% of the Rate. So the company with the product will pay Choptank $950.00 to find a carrier for the load and they turn around and pay the owner operator 30% to 42% less than the actual rate. All they do is answer the phone, accept the load from the product company and post it on their internet board, and of course process the paperwork and pay............but 30% to 42%..........WHAT A RIPOFF!!! They are getting RICH OFF THE OWNER OPERATORS!!!!
They are robbing the owner operator. No wonder the trucking industry is gone down the tubes!!!
If anyone knows of other ways I can get this information out to other owner operators so that they can be aware of being robbed, please let me know. Thank you.
Warning ....Choptank Transport RIPOFF

Who says "YES, I'll haul that load"?
Everyone has the oppourtunity to say NO!
Some just enjoy working cheap and allowing others to profit from their stupidity.Eskimo6804 Thanks this. -
And they will continue to do so as long as there are people who will haul for them. If nobody runs their loads at the low rate they will have to pay more. So the moral to this story is don't haul cheap freight, if you do; don't complain about it,
as you are the problem.

I agree.
My point in this thread is to inform everyone.......BROKERS take more than you think....Not 10%.....they take as much as 30% to 42%! No matter what they say!!!! Of course some brokers do not....but most do!
So next time demand more money......or don't haul it!!!
When we approached Choptank and said we knew what the actual load paid, she said, what would you haul it for? We said "the rate less your 10% commission". She then paused, and said "well if we don't get it covered we will give you a call".Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
Good for you! More people need to do that.

How soon do they pay compared to how long would it would take to get paid by the customer.

I have done over 50 loads with choptank dating back to 2005. This is a very good company, strong freight, rates, carrier services and most importantly pays very very quickly.

Another first time poster with no driving experence!
Ok we'll take your word for it as we've neber seen a one time drive by poster!
AHHH Tap what kind of loads are they? Is that a tanker broker, dry or reefer? I hope it's a reefer/produce broker so I can put a little link that will let you guys know what rates are by the week that comes from the USD and put a one time poster down!
AWWW what the hey! Here you go! http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/wa_fv190.txt -
I hear you guys, I know how it is for the drivers, I work for a company that has 37 Flats and Steps, but we also broker. I want to see the truck get as much money as possible from any load I post on ITS or anywhere else. I try and pay at the least, $2 a mile , because it takes us 1.80 to run, so obviously it takes about the same for you guys to run, so there has to be a profit for the driver somewhere. Just saying, I see stuff posted (the exact same load I have) for 2-300 less than I'm posting for. There are some people who are just happy profiting off of the trucker. Sad deal. I at least have the truck in mind when I broker, not just my wallet.

It is sad when these bottom feeder brokers think 30 minutes on the phone with the shipper and 3 calls with the trucker and pushing a few papers into a fax machine is worth more than 10% of the rate! Start demanding copies their paper work with the shipper!
