I am looking to start an oilfield water hauling business here in Tx around the Midland area. I need to find out if I need a MSA to get work and if so who do I need to contact (i.e. the energy company or drilling company)?

I also need to know how much it would cost to lease a day cab truck? I would like to buy my trailers and just lease the trucks at first until I get things going.

I all ready live in the area, I just need the knowledge on how to get started.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You must be new to the area then. If you've lived there for more than a year or so, you should already know someone in the business.

It's not a stupid comment. You are THERE, and you can walk into any oilfield services company's office to sit and talk with the decision makers. If you've been there for any length of time, one of your friends' brother's cousins can tell you who you need to talk to and maybe even put in a word for you. You can't do much better than that.

edit: Short of using a personal connection, the next step I would consider is to actually get hired on to drive as a water hauler. You'll gain valuable insight into the industry, learn best practices, and see where others make mistakes so that you don't end up making the same ones down the road.

Two of the first things you will need are Waste Haulers Permit from the Rail Road Commission and a TX DOT number. And a good size maintenance account. For a tractor and trailer try Bruckners.

Msa is very important key down in Tx if you have your own water truck. Also knowing a pumper gauger flowback etc. Will help also but there's option #2. a contract... Very important role fOr single truck water o/o. One contract doing a good job increase msa score would help but getting a contract is a tough job. Even once contract is filled it's never a gaurantee work will come with it cause 90% of the time your not going to be remembered escpecially all the compitition out here excuse my wrong typo. Your one truck vs. 5000 water trucks with 100 plus comPanies
