Want to haul wind mills

Just like anything else...it will over saturate and the rates will drop.....not to mention that Mexican truck drivers will soon be doing it for far cheaper than American carriers will...

 

GE wind, Vestus, DMI as well as the other wind energy customers require a driver to have alot of experience hauling tower sections,blades as well as necells(turbines) They're pretty strict on their rules and if you have any accidents that are your fault they can't use you. I've been moving tower sections since '98 and they've made me a good living, but it's not for everyone. since these projects are usually out in the high lonesome, you will do alot of waiting because the soil is to wet. Remember, If the crane can't get to you because the ground is saturated you don't go in. We had to wait many times for days and sometimes weeks occasionally to off load. You cant live on pbj sandwiches for that long so your expenses are going to be substantial. If you have limited patience you will learn or you won't do well. As far as detention time is concerned. Wind energy won't pay until the entire project is over and the books are being closed on it. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but i'm just letting you know what to expect. Knowledge is power.

 

I don't really know of any goog flatbed or heavyhaul companies in Florida. Landstar is outa Jax but they won't let you work for any contractor without at least a couple of years experience. Even then they won't let you do wind energy stuff. You need more time in the seat. Be patient

You call them turbines, as a matter of fact they're referred to as necelles by the windpower industry. no offence

OK, sorry for my slow reply---i'm getting totally bombarded at work.

Anyways, i saw that D.W. Bowman of all companies is hauling these "turbine" blades that i see on my route.


Well, good luck. i have noticed there is alot of heavy/specialized/oversized on my route. At least 3-4 in my direction and equal number the opposite direction. You would think with the "slow" economy so would the number of oversized. But no.

 

right now the rates on the blades is low at best. bowman is moving them to fairless hills along with dailey and bennett.

that's right, one of the few who knows just what the word necell really means.

 

Is this really full time work? How many windmills/turbines/NECells were put up today?

 

i dont know if they shut down or i think just laid off a lot of people. they were to be the next big thing here and they arent making it. i saw it on tv a while back when everything aroud here was closing.

 

What happend to the big push to expedite the towers?

 

Everybody's getting into the fray. don't worry, the rates will be a droppin soon enough. John deere has gotten into the wind energy game. i moved tower sections to echo canyon, oregon for them. they were suzulon tower sections. also moved some necelles out of the piers at beaumont,tx to echo canyon for them. With daily, bennet as well as bowman getting into it the money's gonna get cheap!
