have a 2010 International 8600 with dual fuel tanks, isspro sending units and uses a transfer pump to pump fuel from the passenger side to drivers side tank. We're having some intermediate issues with the transfer pump, sending units. The truck used to be a tractor but now is a small dump and we'd like to remove the passenger side tank and make it a simple system with one tank, one sending unit and no transfer pump. We don't need the range or the problems of two tanks. I'd guess the passenger fuel sending unit tells the pump when to pump the fuel into the other tank to keep them even, which isn't working properly. You have any ideal how to make it a single tank conversion and have the fuel gauge read properly? I could obviously remove/unplug the transfer pump but I do want the gauge to read right.
Want to convert dual fuel tanks to single tank on 2010 International 8600

I could but rather get rid of a tank. The tanks sit real low and if I plumbed a line in it would be the lowest point of the truck. Not good for a dump truck.

Instead of totally getting rid of a tank, cut that tank and weld on end caps to make THREE tanks out of the first big one. Carry Diesel fuel in one tank labeled brightly. Carry Coolant ( mixed 50 50 water) in the other. Carry Hydraulic oil in the third. Have a hand pump ( in order so you can feed, water and support construction equipment in that yard.
Disconnect the original feeder lines etc. Retain the one valve going into the fuel tank bottom because come winter the Desiel will gel and you might need to remove it.
Having a rig that runs around doing your work but potentially SUPPORTING or being a Hero saving yours or some else;s equipment on the job-site.
Am I nuts?
I Recall scooping diesel out of my old tank to feed the paver. I recall backhoe wanted a touch of coolant. we haven't touch the Hydraulic much. It was there and ready to go. -
i run 1 tank on my truck had a air in fuel problem so i took the splitter out one line up one line back

Well, x1heavy, I already have a service truck so really don't need the extra fluids with me. I want to eliminate the tank and put a tool box there instead. Good ideal for someone though.

A storage box would be way cool.

Pull the wires over from bad tank and tie into good, give fuel level a false reading, but clears red light.
Use old tank a tool locker, and a BBQ pit.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
