Case ready isn't a new concept , tyson ibp has had a case ready plant in council bluffs ia for about 20 years, it must be working for them because if you go in there to drop a trailer you will have a hard time finding a place to drop it because the place is so packed .
I wouldn't be surprised to see tyson convert the recently closed Perry IA pork plant to a case ready plant as the council bluffs plant was also a pork plant until tyson bought ibp , there's also few other smaller companies in this area that are case ready plants too.
Walmart now opening up case ready beef plants..

The 4 big packers ( JBS, National Beef, Cargill, Tyson) that have plants that process 3-6k head per day mostly process finished beef from feedlots. Most of the kill cow plants are smaller.

They bought that plant in CB (Plumrose, is that right?) , and built new facilities in Ottawa, IL & Amarillo, TX. Maybe others I'm not remembering from 25 years ago (How the heck did I end up an oldtimer?) We loved them as it was palletized in and out with generally much quicker turnaround times than at a meat plant. And all the packaging made the outbound loads much lighter than a bulk meat load.austinmike and bzinger Thank this. -
Anyone remember American beef packers in Oakland ia ? They went bankrupt in the late 80s and it sat empty about 15 years until osi foods bought it and it now does case ready meat too.intrepidor and Hammer166 Thank this. -

I’m not anti-Walmart, I shop there. I’m a trucker don’t always have a choice…but I will say Walmart pretty much gets the leftover garbage produce and meat and they’ve been known to “sew” Steaks together. I’ll believe the quality when I see it. I still maintain the best quality meats and produce can be found at Costco.
