Ask smokincat, He put a b model in his, though it had a Detroit originally. Or go to diesel garage.com and ask

Okay thanks.

Cummins to cat shouldn't be that bad, I may doubt the mounts will match up exactly though, you would have to check that by measuring and even test fitting. I had to drill the rear engine mounts on the frame side on mine with the holes that were already there. Another issue may be the clearance of the timing advance and the drivers side front frame horn, I had to notch mine.
To to run air to air the ones I have seen recently have modified the top tank by cutting the ends off of it and narrowing it and running a peterbilt air to air from a late 80s 359 that had a factory air to air.
That at engine in the pic looks like something from great lakes diesel, I hope not for your sake that it isn't, or the swap would be a waste of time and money. You would be better off to overhaul the big cam. -
I have about 5 years ago, but with a B model 3406 CAT in a 1985 W900B. Fairly easy. I made the mounts first and then put it in. Throttle linkage was made with Hardened steel rod.

Not exactly the same, that truck had the option of a B/C model in it and being how the w900b is still being made a good number of parts are still available, not the case with a w900a.
Catliner Thanks this. -
just get the mounts from an B,or L and drill new holes. the rails should be the same

They go right in behind the cab mount on an A model, they moved the cab mounts back under the cab when they started on the w900b.

I have a 71 w923a with a ntc 350 cummins. I'm in the process of purchasing a 3406B and want to put it in, in place of the cummins. I'm trying to figure out if the engine is going to fit and if i'll be able to get the air to air in front of the radiator
