Of the five lights on the roof of the cab of my W9, one burns much brighter than the others. The blown bulb that I removed had actually exploded the glass and was black inside. The blown bulb had also melted the lenses. I can't find pictures of blown bulbs with an explanation as to why each bulb blew i.e. moisture, high voltage, vibration, etc. The bulbs are #921. What is going on?

Try a lower wattage bulb and make sure they all match to be the same. 921 is 18 watts and likely too high and overheating. Try 904's or check with dealer for correct bulb number. Just cuz its shaped the same doesnt mean it is the same.

Provide year and chassis number so the KW guys on here can look em up for ya.

All the bulbs are 921. The other 4 are the correct brightness and they don't blow. This one bulb is overly bright and obviously hot as it melted the lens. 93 W9 last six 584764

How many times has this occurred on the same light? Once- five. This makes absolutely no sense other than a defective bulb. All of the lights are daisy chained and on the same circuit. Have you measured the voltage and checked the ground on the problem child to match the others?

I know it makes no sense but all the bulbs are same. No one has messed with the wiring. Replacement bulbs are noticeably brighter than the other 4. Only one lens has been damaged. I haven't taken any measurements.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I would begin by getting all new bulbs and replace them all again, maybe a different brand. Sylvania or Wagner seem to be pretty good quality. Swap a bulb from another light to see if it's the same. Verify the correct part number.
