Hi, I have a 2019 Volvo D13. I filled up my diesel and DEF all the way before starting the trip. I’ve done about 1250 miles. Diesel’s at half way mark but I still got 3 quarters of DEF left. Is this normal DEF consumption. To me it feels like it’s consuming very little DEF. Thanks

Most trucks don’t use a lot of DEF…
this freightliner gets DEF once a week running 2500-3200 be around a half or just little less.Siinman Thanks this. -
They make different sizes of def tanks so just saying your gauge says half or three quarters means nothing.
Write down your miles the next time you fill the def tank and then do the math the next time you fill up.
That’s the only way to know. -
DEF consumption will vary depending on the environment, operation and duty cycle of the equipment you are using. On average, DEF consumption is 3-5% of your total fuel consumption levels. -
Friend of mine works for a company has Volvo daycabs. Says the colder it is, the more def it uses, in summer it's much less. Fleet of trucks they all do the same thing.
I have an isx and it is about 4% of fuel consumption. -
I plan on having him check things out and do a Nox sensor calibration next time I'm in for service.Siinman Thanks this. -
What’s the outside temperature been?
My Detroit used zero DEF fluid when the temperature got below about -25. Cummins about the same.
Volvos in our fleet did use more. -

@86scotty
Ever change the def doser? (And dpf doser)
I change mine about every 300-400k km. They haven't given me any issues before that, they always were a bit gunked up, carbon on the 7th injector and white crystals around the hole the def nozzle sits in. Could likely get more life out of them, but to me, it's peace of mind. Haven't had any serious emission issues yet. *knock on wood* I carry a box of sensors which has come in handy twice. Nox sensor and I think it was egr pressure or temp sensor I can't recall. Fix it myself ecm resets after x trips or distance.

The company he works for only runs between sw ontario and Ohio. It is almost never even close to -25 here. He wouldn't know what they do in that cold. I've only ever had my current truck that uses def, it also cuts off the def at about -25. -
