Hello everyone, I currently own few Volvo trucks with D13 engines. I am using Mobil Delvac 15W-40 Conventional oil and changing it around 10.000 Miles.

I know that Volvo recommended oil change interval is around 25.000 Miles when using Synthetic oil.

I prefer changing the oil much often but that comes at a cost of oil, filters, and labor.

I have recently started thinking, what if at 10.000 miles mark I change just the oil (drain and fill) and at 20.000 miles I change oil and filters?

Since Volvo recommended interval is so high that means that the filters are designed to withstand 20-30K miles and when changing the oil at 10.000 miles the filters probably don't use even half of their resource.

    What do you guys think?

No reason it shouldn't work. People don't change their filter every time they add makeup oil. Google "bob is the oil guy", and see what those guys say.

Take an oil sample. It will tell you how much life the oil has left in it.

I also think your plan is backwards, change filter not the oil. Filter is what keeps oil clean. The guys that run high dollar synthetic oil with 100,000 mile intervals change the filters every 20 or 30,000.

What you are saying is right but it doesn't contradict me either. Those who use Synthetic oil change the filters more often because the oil outlives the filters. In my case I am looking to use conventional oil and change the oil at 10k and filters at 20k, same filter interval as those who use synthetic.

Do the factory recommended oil change intervals and save your money.

All you’re doing is throwing your money away.. Doing it every 10k you’ll have thrown out enough money that could have gotten you a new engine.. Do the math, it’s not rocket science.

I always did mine between 15-18k and now I’m only doing it every 20k. For me that’s just over 6 weeks of running.

Factory recommends using Synthetic oil, you can't expect the same mileage from conventional oil.
