I noticed this small leak around coolant shut off valve, the filter has been replaced 2 months ago. I'm just wondering if this valve position is ON, so the coolant goes through filter or was forgotten in OFF position after filter replacement ?
Would the cooling system work with this valve closed? I found mixed info informations , some are saying is closed at "11 o'clock"?
Any tips, plz ?
Volvo D13 coolant filter shut off valve ON/OFF position?

That's the same position as mine so it should be open.

Pamela1990, KB3MMX and Johny41 Thank this. -
Yes the cooling system still works just fine valve is only there to close filter for ease of replacement problem is that it’s completely useless as soon as you try to close them they leak and they are usually rusted in one position. So they closed it and hence the leak

Thanks for the reply guys.
So is it closed or open in my photos?
If it's closed the coolant doesn't get filtered, right?
-
Yes this is the only side effect but think about it for a min if you take care of the truck like one is supposed to coolant just changed from hot to cold and it should not carry any debris that would need to be filtered

Can the shut off valve be replaced or does the entire pump and housing have to come off?
Matt1924 Thanks this. -
I had the valve replaced but at the time the shop was doing the oil cooler cover as well.

Do you know how they did it? Can you see if its the original housing that holds the water pump or if different after they did all your work?
If its the original or whicehever you had on before they started, I would imagine theres a way to screw it out or something..Matt1924 Thanks this. -
Had it done 5 years ago . No pictures. The house is the same one.
Matt1924 Thanks this. -
