You don't see that many on the road anymore because they were only produced from 2005-2008, and the D16 Engine that it came standard with also gave the truck the title of a Shop Queen.

A buddy of mine had one. Very nice truck. Rode good. Pulled like a champ in fact, really well, as good as a CAT. That was when it was running. It was a 2008 and spent about a week in the shop for every week running. No telling how many tens of thousands that POS cost him the couple of years he ran it before he finally cut his losses and got a new glider. Volvo introduced them to target small operators but they never sold very well.

I saw few on Truck Paper with Cummins ISX but they very rare.I think that Volvo just had that terrible D16 and economy starting to halt didn't help either ... Seems like now they fixed that engine but still is not very popular.

The volvo 880 came with the optional D16 625 horse 2250 torque engine which tops cats 625 2050 c15 and because of this eaton fuller even made a special transmission specifically for this truck (with that rating) rtlo22918b. Truck is a pulling beast although some otr guys have complained the truck was very heavy on the front end.

The big issues with the d16 were the injector cups, injectors and most importantly the turbos which were horrible. The biggest thing to keep it mind is that all turbo complaints stopped after 09 when they updated the turbos. cups and injectors have had updates but still suffer the same fate but so does the d13.

The vt880 was supposed to be for guys who love the long nose look but have gotten sick of squeezing their cheeks between the seats of a pete but unfortunately the very horrible start with the turbo and the heavy axle dwindled them out.

Yeah beautiful trucks. Shame they had so many problems with the D16. Heard you can pull Monteagle with 40k in the box and not lose speed. Also been told mid 5 mpg is the norm.

Still it looks bad ### with all that chrome and about. I got to see one up close last week at a Volvo dealer. It was parked next to two VNLs. That VT880 dwarfed them.

Thought about buying one several years ago. An O/O gave me a tour of his when we were stopped at the Little America in Flagstaff. It was like a small apartment. Too many issues though for me to feel comfortable plunking down $$$.

The Cab/Sleeper dimensions of the VT880 is exactly the same as a VNL770/780.

The VT880 is a Set-Forward front axle truck vs. the VNL770/780, which are Set-Back front axle trucks.
