I have a 379 fixer-upper in progress and for as long as I can remember it's been missing the ID plate. I Know it's around here somewhere, but y'all know how that goes.....

I have a guy at Rush that generally can help me with oddball items but after Several emails to Paccar with no response I took it upon myself to find a 3rd party vendor. I don't usually give out free advertising but my search results were pretty slim and I'm sure there are others out looking for a similar product.

Anyhow I felt the need to give credit where credit was due.
Aluma Photo-Plate in Houston hooked me up with a reproduction, was accommodating with some customization and did it for what I felt was a fair price.

    The end result:

They do good work for sure. Helped me out with some customization of the text and I opted to use the old square logo instead of the oval. My turn around time from order to delivery was like 4 days.

    That can't be legal.

    That's my thought. Not legal,but.
As long as the replacement plate reflects true and accurate information, it should be ok.

Surprised Paccar wouldn't make a replacement for you.

VIN plates need to be issued by the state of registration.

If this same thread were posted in a vintage Corvette forum relating to Corvette VIN rather than Peterbilt it would cause colossal controversy and the company reproducing them would be shut down in a heartbeat.

Even reproduction "Data plates" (plates riveted to the firewall denoting options), while not illegal, are highly frowned upon by most if not all vintage car enthusiasts.

It's not stamped. It's printed, clear coated and reflects the actual information. His website describes the legality of it, up to and including running the number through a law enforcement database. Paccar was willing to supply the door frame sticker but not a reproduction plate on a 16yr old truck.

Oh, ok. That's good to know in case I ever need the same thing.

I just remember the same topic causing a major ####storm on the vette forums a while ago. Assumed would be the same for trucks.

It is a high quality looking piece for sure.
