Alright guys I need some help. I can’t find the 17 digit vin on a 1990 pete I just picked up. There is a peterbilt plate under the dash on the left side of the steering wheel ( like there should be) but it has a 9 digit number stamped on it. I gave this number to my insurance agent and she said it wasnt a valid vin. Must be a 17 digit number even on a 1990. So I called he local Rush Center and they weren’t any help. Told me to check the frame near the cab (checked, not there either) or look for the sticker inside the door (well not ####, not there either). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I know Kenworth likes to stamp the right side frame rail about where the steer axle sits. Peterbilt might be the same too.

That’s what Rush suggested and there are 3 different sets of numbers stamped on both sides of the frame near the stear axle but not a full vin or anything that adds up to 17 digits. Thanks for the reply.

Anything on the top of the frame rail flange?

Is that truck a glider by chance? The number on the dataplate ends in GL so that could possibly explain a short VIN.
@pushbroom @Goodysnap @spsauerlandpushbroom, SAR and spsauerland Thank this. -

It's a glider. Insurance company told me same thing on my 82 Glider. Wikipedia helped me figure out the corresponding 17 digit VIN.
