In December of 2011, I was issued a brand new 2012 truck. I didn't want to damage anything by mounting my CB radio, plus I wanted the option of taking the radio out quickly, if I needed to. I came up with a good idea, which allows me to mount my CB, external speaker, and even a medium sized power inverter to the dashboard of my truck, with no damage to the truck.

First I got a piece of 3/4 inch wood, and cut it to the size I wanted. Then I cut the wood at an angle on the back side, so it would follow the angle of the windshield. This gave me a nice platform to mount everything I wanted to. Then I mounted the CB, External speaker, and power inverter to the wood.

On the back side of the wood, I screwed in t medium sized hooks, with the open side facing down. Then I got 2 small suction cups that stick to the windshield, and put the hooks on the wood into the handles of the suction cups. That keeps the back end of the wood level with the front end. Where the front end of the wood rests on the dashboard, I stuck a row of felt pads at the exact place the wood rested on the dash.

When I start out my week, I simply attach the suction cups to the windshield, and hook the wood into the handles. Then I attach my Antenna coax, and I'm ready to roll. Total time to put the radio in is less than 2 minutes.

I have a video on YouTube, where you can see this mount an action. You can't tell by the video, but there is a gap between the radio and the speaker, which keeps my line of sight clear for the spot mirror on my passenger side of the hood.

The mount is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. After 5 months use, you can not see even the slightest damage to the dash anywhere.

Here's a link to the video I did. Remember, you are just looking at the mount, not my great camera work.

My 2013 Freightshaker already comes with a place to mount the CB. All I did was get rid of the crappy antenna they provide and put some oil-cooled Wilson's there. Match dropped to nothing... no RF feedback at all - I was expecting to at least have to move the wire.

Another thing to use when you want to mount things without drilling holes is 3M double sided industrial tape. It can be bought anywhere and is very strong but can peel of without leaving a mess.

Yeah...And if you have a wreck, that radio, plywood, and speaker is going to turn into a missile flying around inside the Cab with you too!

All the items are very securely attached to the wood. If you look at the hooks, they are heavy enough to hold 100 pounds each. If you grab the wood, and pull it, you can't break the suction cups loose from the glass. If you hit something, and have extreme deceleration, The radio and wood would go away from you, not toward you. I would be more likely hurt from a flying metal clipboard, or my winch bar smacking me, than hurt from this radio and mount.
