I drove it once. Won't do it again. Steep hills, hairpin turns, narrow roads. Little towns, with narrow streets, hairpin turns and steep hills. Even a one lane bridge.
Look at your atlas, the green dotted line along it designates it as a scenic route. Might be enjoyable on a motorcycle in the summer. But in a heavy truck it's stressful. Just my opinion -
US 7 in VT is a legal truck route. I don't think I'd want to run it either though, at least not loaded. I just looked it up and found some big mountains along there.

It is not that bad done it many times pulling 53' reffers and my 48' spread axle step deck with a 260" wb classic loaded close to 80,000lbs.Lots of trucks run that way.

iv done that rt as well, but its tight, i enjoyed it, just use caution the whole time till you get out to the hwy part of it...
*** also, if you going with a sleeper and a 53' you better make sure that you have the permit to operate in that state... they are very strict on it..
they have a length law. 68 ft MAX!! bumper to bumper you can not exceed 68 feet.. and if you have a sleeper with a 53, then you exceed that limit... they have a truck NETWORK you HAVE TO STAY ON!!!***
TRUST ME I NO!!! i was put out servise for more then a day while i waited on my permits for being over lenght... and they shut you down on the side of the rd. i was lucky enough to be put OOS in the middle of no-mans-land with nothing around for 8 miles.. no water, no bathroom no tv reception, no NOTHING, while the local police sat across a corn field and watched me the entire time waiting for me to make a move to dish out a nother ticket... -
Why would you want to, considering VT 7 doesn't go into NY. It runs N and S from Burlington to Bridgeport, Ct.
If you are just riding around, it is a nice scenic route, but if you have a specific starting point and destination, there are much better and quicker routes for a truck.
Just my opinion!
If you are going from Albany, NY to southern Vermont, Rt 9 will get you there. It is a 2 lane road over Hogback Mt, so watch the weather. It is shorter than taking I90 to Springfield, Ma and than going north on I91. Alot of trucks use it, but like I said "watch the weather". It has some long grades up and down.
