Complete novice here. I THINK I'm understanding an Air Card to be a device you add to your laptop which provides internet access on the road for the laptop only. I THINK I'm understanding the Mifi to be a mobile router allowing mutiple devices to access it's signal. Can any seasoned users be a bit more specific to the pros and cons of each. Thanks.

I have used the Verizon aircard for years. It works great, and I like the portability of being able to use it anywhere and on any computer. The drawback is having something sticking out of the side of your computer, although they have gotten smaller. If you drop your laptop or hit a big bump in the road and your laptop flies into the dashboard the aircard can break.

one goes in your computer and one is portable and can be used with many computers

The MiFi device is great! I just got one getting ready to head out on the road here soon and got it for free and got the 5GB plan for 50 bucks! It works great! I get better reception though that then I do with my At&t wireless router in my house!

I've been using a Verizon wireless "Fivespot" 3G hotspot at home for about a month. I'm using it to provide access for three computers and a wireless printer. It's an amazing little widget, only about half the size of a cell phone, works great, and it looks like the monthly cost will be around $45. Of course this can be used on their nationwide mobile network too.

Are there any out there that has unlimited data? I've looked around for awhile and only found 5gb and less.

I have unlimited data on my verizon account, never used the card but I used my phone and tethered it to my laptop. Worked fine in major or decent sized cities but sucks in the boonies. But I would watch yourself if you get the 5gig data because if you watch a lot of videos on you tube an others it will add up really quick, and going over on your data gets expensive real quick.

Verizon has a 10GB plan for the hot spot for $80/month. I have the HotSpot 5GB.
