Vehicular Homicide I-40 Knoxville Tn 5/2/12

I went through there about 30 minutes after it happened. This is what tailgating and being in a hurry does. I sure wouldn't want to live with it. The comments at the bottom of this article are telling about the public's perception of us.

FARRAGUT A tractor-trailer driver whose rig sparked a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 East that killed a Loudon County woman has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Citations also are pending against the driver, Darold Eugene Reimer, 51, of Fort Worth, Texas, according to a report by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Hutchins.

Killed in the 5:49 p.m. crash Wednesday in West Knox County was Kimberly D. Townson, 42, of Loudon.

The sequence of events began as Reimer was driving a 2004 Volvo hauling furniture when he rear-ended another rig on the interstate at Campbell Station Road, according to Hutchins' report.

Reimer's rig struck the 2003 Volvo carrying large machinery driven by Daryl Lee Weaver, 31, of Mount Olive, Miss., and then attempted to pass the truck in the center lane.

He sideswiped that tractor-trailer and went off the right side of the interstate into the grass, according to Hutchins' report. Neither Reimer nor Weaver was injured.

Reimer's truck came back onto the Campbell Station ramp, then rear-ended a 2008 Saturn driven by Kathy G. Kennett, 63, of Kingston, causing it to leave the roadway, according to Hutchins' report.

Kennett and her passenger, Keith Kennett, 66, of Kingston, were injured.
Reimer's truck then struck a 2000 Ford Focus driven by Townson, pinning it against the guardrail before rolling over onto it, according to Hutchins' report.

It's kind of hard to comprehend? Did the guy go whacko? Medical condition?

I'll watch the Knoxville news in about 45 minutes and see what they say.

A temper over something stupid caused someone their life? I guess he fixed everything.

Yeah those comments are something else. Everyone thinks the highway belongs to them.

It sure sounds like a medical condition by the sound of it he didnt even attempt to slow down when he left the roadway he came back and took some ones life. It begs the question What the heck was going on with that driver? sad someone lost their life though. Police was very quick in charging him if you noticed no tests no check up just hauled off to jail right after the accident.

It was right at rush hour. I ran through there shortly after the wreck and remember thinking how stupid people were driving before the back up.

The truck actually rolled on the off ramp about half way up it. My guess is he was in the hammer lane following too close and going too fast when traffic stopped and he attempted to avoid rear ending the flatbed by swerving to the right. Crap hit the fan in a matter of seconds.

Okay, this makes more sense. He hit the truck and lost control. The front truck hit one car while he overturned on top the other.

Bad driving gone bad. Knoxville has always been a mad house with I-40/I-75/I-81 traffic. I bet they have a crackdown now.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A tractor-trailer driver is charged with vehicular homicide after a crash Wednesday night on Interstate 40 in West Knox County killed a Lenoir City teacher's assistant.

The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. when two semi trucks collided near the Campbell Station Road exit.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials say the trucks collided as one attempted to pass the other. The driver of one of the trucks lost control, went off the road and then struck a car.

The other truck struck and overturned on a car. The car's driver, Kimberly Townson, 42, of Loudon, was killed. She was a teacher's assistant for special education students at Lenoir City High School.

The driver and a passenger in the other car, Kathy Kennett, 63, and Keith Kennett, 66, of Kingston, were injured.

THP says tractor-trailer driver Darold Eugene Reimer, 51, of Fort Worth, Texas, is charged with vehicular homicide.

One eastbound lane of I-40 was shut down at mile marker 373, as well as the Campbell Station Road exit.

No just doing what I see every day. Trucks running too fast too close to each other. We all love to blame the 4 wheelers but lots of big trucks are just as bad or worse. Most of them aren't rookies either.

yeah, I get passed by them everyday too. Nothing will stop them except retirement or unfortunately things like this accident.

I saw the whole thing from Campbell Station Rd. I quickly pulled my car over and ran over to the scene of the accident as quickly as I could. Being a nurse, I took control of the situation as quickly as I could. I couldn't get to the lady in the car because of how badly it was damaged, so I ripped her windshield off, and cut her seat belt because it was rapped around her. I then checked her pulse; it was faint but it was there. I tried to talk to her as best I could to tell her that everything would be okay, but she was unconscious, (which was probably a good thing, I doubt she even knew what was going on). Everyone else was fine including the truck driver who seemed so cavalier about the whole thing, as if the world owed him some favor or something. I stayed as long as the authorities would let me. I cried after I found out she died.
