Vancouver, WA (or Portland, OR) trucking companies?

    I'm tossing around the idea of moving to Vancouver, WA due to WA state's no personal income tax, along with the added benefit of being on border w/ Oregon which has no sales tax. What are some of the better employment options for a trucker living in Vancouver/Portland area? Thanks much.

    What kind of experience do you have, and what are you looking to get into? Local? OTR? Dry, refer, tank, flatbed, or are you open on that front?

    Im about to get back into trucking after 4 yrs away. I drove for 6 mos w Swift back in 2013. I start soon w one of the mega carriers to re-obtain my class A (then go OTR) which I gave up after moving to another state, failing to transfer my CDL. My post is really to.better inform myself as I look to the future (one year from now). My ideal position at that point would be a dedicated drop n hook coast to coast route, but all-lower-48 OTR (or regional) seems most realistic with my level of experience. Im open with re: to reefer, dry van, tanker, but a little wary on flatbed but open minded enough to consider it. Im 47, getting older w enough aches and pains to make me think twice about flatbed. But id be willing to give it a shot. Not interesred in local. I lived in Seattle for 12 yrs 1992-2004, and really enjoy the PacNW.

    You're not that far behind me (I'll be 51 next month). I'm out curious, why no interest in local work? I can understand if you feel called to be out there seeing the country, no problem with that. Me personally, I like being able to sleep in my own bed every day, but everyone's different. The reason I ask is, on a quick search, I found a local intermodal position with Schneider which they have available to inexperienced drivers right now. They're advertising it at around $63,000/year with a sign on bonus.

    In the meantime, I'll get back to you with other options soon, and I know there are other drivers here in the forum that are local to my area as well, they'll pipe in soon.

    Thank you. My entire attraction to trucking (since I was a very young boy) is the notion of traveling the country, living out of my truck and sleeper. Yes, if something local was an only option, id certainly be grateful for that opportunity. But if im sleeping in my sleeper 28 days a month, thats where im going to be the happiest. Wanderlust burns deep in me.

    Good drivers market out here in Pacific north west good plan to live in WA as a driver as that's where I live no state taxes but I run local out off Portland hauling 1203

    I know there are places that make custom beds. I'm sure the bed in a condo isn't regular size. I plan on having a Beautyrest mattress custom made for my truck. They'll match it.
    It's important to have a 'my bed' when you're out of town. I used to work out of town. I know. Getting good sleep means more than everything.
