I use the flow through valve extensions on advise of my local bridgestone dealer. He says there dot legal. I've never had any trouble. But not so sure now.

I had those on all my inside wheels. Ran into a guy who said Ohio did not like them,so i took them off. Went through a Pa. inspection and asked the DOT guy what he thought of the Flow throughs,he said he did not have a problem with them, but he worked with guys that maybe would give someone a hard time over them. At a later date ran into an Ohio DOT guy and showed him the flow through,he said he did not have a problem with them. My personal feeling is it depends who you run into. But as far as the metal versus the plastic,Ohio will give you grief over the plastic.

I've got those too and never had an issue. Funny how some cops don't understand why people hate them, I guess making up rules as you go doesn't register with them.

    I don't know.

Here is my philosophy. If I can't take you to the regulation in the book and show it to you, I will no put it on an inspection report.

It should not hurt the feelings of any inspector for a driver to ask for help in finding the regulation. Except, maybe, when the inspector is making things up as he goes along.

One thing I have noticed with most people is that they see a person with a badge or from the government and they see official. When they see said official they believe the rubbish, honest or lies, that spew from their mouth without any thought that it might be wrong.

"It's for the kids" is the most common rubbish and seems to be a "battle cry" for it.

I know I have been TOLD by a former co-worker that it's against regulation to put a 1/2 twist in a strap. I just looked at him and asked him to share that regulation with me. He got pissed and walked away. I went home and here I am 3 months later and I STILL cannot find it in the regs book.

I just had my equip inspect for my annual insp. the mgr & the only d.o.t. certified insp at Mggriff tire co told me it is part of his insp to make sure valve stem caps are metal. he told me it is not in the book, but the plastic caps can come off if hit by road debri. my opinion. is it is one of those things that if you challenge the officer, he will at some point back down, whether right at the scene or in court. but I don't see that charge sticking if you contest it. however, it takes, time & money to refute a charge in court.

Doesn't cost a thing to DataQ an incorrect violation on an inspection.

I just bought 2 new tires recently, the guys put the metal valve caps on there. Was a pain in the tail to reach through the rim hole to remove them to check the tire pressures inside dual.

My carrier has been hit so many times on 'hose chafings', that they have separated the air lines-- one down each side of the trailers about 8 feet apart. This is what it is coming to.... DOT is running out of the big things to ding us on and have to make crap up and hope it sticks.
