I have 2 job offers and I need to choose between a vac truck or a flatbed. I need to decide today. If pay was the same, what is the better chiice?

Only you can answer that. What do you like better ? Have you done either before ? There is no outright "better" choice. It depends on what you prefer.

I did vac truck stuff in the beginning when I first started driving and again about 3 years ago. The waste waters and stuff were cool. But the waste haz mats were not. I never did oilfield but I have worked in refineries. I would do vac work again if it paid right in my area.

I m not sure about oilfield. The worse I did was haz waste. The water and oil was easier. Just the haz waste had more paperwork involved. And a lot of carcinogens in the liquids. Oh and you had to wear all the PPE. Even when hot. But it loads quick.

I just saw an ad for a vac truck driver in south TX. They made it clear you would be cleaning out Port-a-potty. If they paid $50 hr I still wouldn't do it. All those construction guys call you ##### pumper or any other derogatory name they can think of. The smell would gag a maggot on a gut wagon. That smell would have to cling to you all the way home and into your house.

I know there is other stuff vac trucks do but I would be sure what it is before you commit.

I drive a vacuum truck in the oilfield. It's some of the easiest money I've ever made. Mostly hauling water from the production tanks at the leases to the disposals.

Would I quit this job to pull a flatbed? Hell no!
