Hey guys,
As I prep for the Road skills test, I'm just curious what to expect. Hoping some of you that are licensed in VA can chime in and tell me what to expect on the road skills test. Other than Pre-Trip and driving the instructor around town. What maneuvers are you expected to perform? (Class A btw)
Thanks!

When I did mine 17 years ago it was stopping for an imaginary railroad crossing and basically keeping an eye on road signs. She asked what the maximum speed for the ramp we just came down and what was the height of the bridge we went under and what was the posted weight for the bridge we just crossed.
She understood that I was nervous as I explained to her when we done the test. Had to back next to a couple cones in an angle and straight back. I got out of the vehicle and looked before I backed. Hope this helps.bwaycummins Thanks this. -
Thanks for your response. I'm sweating the road test. Wonder how much it has changed in the past 17 years?

Road test are road tests. Don't curb the tires when turning. You are better off getting chewed for pinhooking too far than failing for a curby. The bridge height gets many. Read all signs. They'll wait until after the bridge and then ask you "what was the height of that bridge"? Stay calm, they are just a rider. You get all nervous you won't do as good.
You'll do fine, good luck!Puppage Thanks this. -
Most,if not all of the examiners don`t know as much about the truck as you. They were trained to give the tests. Do everything by the book. Harrisonburg is a great place to take the test -all roads around DMV are wide enough for easy turns.Good Luck, you`ll be fine.

i just did my test yesterday. Got an 86 out of 96 on my pretrip. did perfect on my skills. (straight back and curve back) then did good on the driving part. Its pretty easy, just take your time and dont rush

Let us know what how you did. It is not as bad as you imagine I think everybody gets nervous when being graded. Just remember pay attention to the signs and speed limits. I did mine in Roanoke and it was at UPS building for pre trip and backing then it was out Route 11 to I81 and back to UPS.

I do not know if it still at the UPS building or not. As far as the curved backing it is not as bad as it sounds. I did it and it looks like they are straight but I think they have a small curve to them. Just get out and look before backing up and when you take the road test always pay attention to the signs. They will ask you what a sign said after you are passed it. They understand you will be nervous and will guide you in what to do.
