Get on the post office mailing list when contracts expire you meet requirements you can bid on that run. The contract is rebid every 2 years or so used to be several years ago.

You might want to contract your services to a Mail Contract Carrier.

Most of the Straight Trucks I see are not actual O/O's, they work for a Contract Carriers and usually they work out of P&DC Centers. I rarely see any actual true O/O's. The ones that drive Tractor Trailers usually work out of BMC Centers (Bulk Mail Centers).

I talked to an O/O one time briefly and he mentioned it was a lot easier contracting his services to a Contract Carrier instead of actually bidding on routes. I see him practically every night, but never really got into the details of what he actually makes. But from the looks of his Tractor and how well it's maintained, he must be making some really good money. Sometimes I would see O/O's trying to recruit drivers on Federal Property, promising a percentage of the load working on 1099. Sortta like how Intermodal O/O's do it. And I also remember overhearing dispatch one time about how much these O/O's and Contract Carriers we're actually making, and they weren't really happy about it either. It's the reason why a lot of these Contracted work is going back in house for the MVS Drivers to handle because it's a lot cheaper to do it inhouse, rather than Contracting the work out.
